Water fasting - has anyone done it?

I read this article the other day (I think I found it through the Jermy Corbyn thread!) www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jul/11/jeanette-winterson-why-i-fasted-11-days and it has piqued my interest.

I am five stone overweight, and however good my intentions I will binge eat whenever I can. I have read many articles online about water fasting now, and it seems that it's actually fairly safe if you are obese. I haven't found any articles about people who have died from fasting as a weightloss measure anyway!

Has anyone done it successfully? I am in the "fortunate" position of not working at the moment so I am able to sit around the house feeling weak for 7-21 days!

Only complication is my thyroid medication. Would I continue to take it, or stop for the duration of the fast?

Sorry I know this is old but I'm just starting this. I am still taking my anti depressants and vitamins though. Will that stop the digestive system from shutting down properly and hinder my fast?

I know someone who did a water fast for 30days. He lost a lot of weight but tbh he needed too. He was very lucky that he could work from home and has no DCs or dependants. He worked out throughout the fast. By the end he was quite dehydrated as he didn't have enough salt in his body to hang on to all the water he was drinking. He loved it, said it was knackering but he felt really good at the end of it. He always said after the first week it got easier every day.

I have done juice fasts. 80%veg, 20%fruit for a max of 10days. Was on about 1200cals a day and was super full of energy, never hungry. Would recommend but I do feel a bit queasy about the green juices after a week or so and have to force them down.
