I get so cold even if house is warm - anyone else? How do you warm up other than by eating...

I do! - I thought it was just me, but yes by the evening I'm freezing.

Sometimes I sit with a hot water bottle on me!, but it doesn't actually warm me up it just keeps me warm.

hornetgirl · 30/01/2015 07:20

Yes, I get cold too. FD for me usually ends with me under a blanket on the sofa and going to bed in my socks.

When I sometimes fast I do. I think it is related to changes in hormonal system. Thyroid is responsible for regulating that.

Perhaps upping proteins on non diet days (eat at least half your ideal weight in grams of protein per day but avoiding excessive intake of soy protein), taking magnesium, coenzyme B vitamins, Q10, iron or zinc would help?

I've only just started again but I found this last time. I found that going to exercise helped, oddly enough. You still feel cold but you're too busy to really notice.

or going to bed v early and sleeping.

Quite a few people notice this, quite normal.

When fasting, your body doesn't have as much fat readily available and starts to burn your body's fat store for energy.
It may not do so quickly enough to provide as much heat as normal.

You may notice cold hands & feet in particular: more blood is travelling to your body fat, to help move it to your muscles where it can be burned as a fuel.
This can cause the blood vessels in toes and fingers to dilate, to compensate.

A few mins brisk exercise or movement will improve circulation on FDs and warm you up

Also, after you lose say a stone, you may feel cold on NFDs too, because you will have lost a fair bit of the fat layer under the skin, which acts as insulation.
Your body may need time to adjust to burning more fat for energy, to compensate.

Hi I'm new what is the longest ever fasted & how do you tell yourself you don't need to eat ?!

Elsasalterego · 08/02/2015 21:07

I get soooo cold. I have to soak in a really hot bath till it seems like my core body temperature has increased. Plus I wake up in the night and have to put an electric blanket on! I've also felt like this on NFDs after 2 consecutive fast days (those are the only days I eat breakfast but I still feel like I my body has no spare energy for keeping me warm)

Elsasalterego · 08/02/2015 21:11

Hi freedom, I only ever fasted 2 days in a row. I manage not to eat because I try and convince myself the feeling of hunger is pleasurable..... Wierd I know but it works for me, better than trying to convince myself all that hard work is for a good cause... My subconscious is less convinced that being thin is worth it.

GlowWine · 08/02/2015 21:23

Yes it's quite normal I think. I get cold at work so I have an extra card I there that I take off when I go out... I also have fingerless gloves that really help, and copious amounts of herbal tea. At midday I usually manage a brisk walk which works wonders too. All things already suggested above.

RedCrayons · 08/02/2015 21:29

Yes I do, especially my feet. But until I read this thread I hadn't connected the dots! I was thinking I might be having circulation problems! Ha, I never thought about fasting.

I felt cold quite a few times in the beginning - I took to having a pair of thick walking socks by the bed just in case I needed them during the night.

But I haven't felt cold in absolutely ages - so it does get better, IME!

To my mind it always meant that IF was working!

Freedom I advise fasting longer than 3 consecutive days, even as a one-off, unless under medical supervision. Weight loss should be a healthy, sustainable process over a period of weeks or months, not attempting a crash diet.

Also, I recommend against zero cals for longer than 24 hrs at a stretch. After the 24 hrs, eat your 500/600 calories for the day. Of course, you can also spread them out over the day, if you prefer.
