Not eating between meals

I wonder if anyone would like to join me in a diet type project I am looking at.
It's based on good old sensible portion sizes and traditional eating patterns. In essence, over the last twenty or thirty years years or so people have started eating far too much between meals. I have a theory that if we cut out in between meal eating and cut down on portion size, we will all lose weight naturally. I wondered if anyone would like to join me in an experiment over a six month period to see if we can lose weight this way?
If you are interested, then please will you be so bold as to put your starting weight down and state that "you're in". My intention is to log the progress and use it as research for a project I'm working on.
I believe that there is no reason why we should have to restrict particular food types but obviously I would suggest a common sense approach. After all ladies, we all know which foods are good for us, so, three rules:

  1. Eat more of the foods that we all know are good for us and less of those that we know are bad for us, but don't restrict anything. If you want a pudding, and it's after your meal, then eat one.
  2. Eat your "five a day" every day.
  3. Don't eat between meals.
Who would like to join me? If you would: State "I'm in", and put your starting weight down. I'm personally starting at 160 lbs (11 stone 6lb) on 11th April 2014. (I would suggest that we update once every fortnight, as I think every week would be too soon.) So after today, next "check in" would be 25th April.

I don't eat between meals anyway, so I'm in 153lbs (10 stone 13lb). Looking forward to this.

Hi SMHL, looks like it might be just us two on this thread! Let's hope more join, but in any event would sincerely like to do this as I would like to lose another stone but for some reason even with working out 5 days a week with no snacking and doing 20:5 my weight just seems to fluctuate between 150 and 153, maybe I not consuming enough, but I don't count calories but very mindful of what I put into my mouth, lots of protein, fiber little carbs!!!

Anyhow I'm in and let's do this.

Brilliant. I'm the same. Been stuck at the same weight for ages. Maybe we can spur each other on! ??

You won't lose weight without a weekly calorie deficit, however achieved.

On 5:2/IF we advise everyone: NO snacking, just eat meals.
So most of us have probably avoided snacks for several months.
Also, many old hands skip breakfast, so just eat larger lunch and supper.

I have avoided snacks since last spring and definitely feel it was a major factor in my regaining trim abs. It probably gives my insulin metabolism time to chill.

No snacking is basic common sense.
BUT you will not lose weight unless you have a calorie deficit across the week of at least 3000
there is no other way to make the body pull on the reserves around your hips

I am currently breastfeeding so don't want to calorie restrict so this is ideal for me as I have turned into a constant grazer, mostly sugary snacks. My meals in themselves are healthy it's all the crap in between!!

I have been reading this about the no S diet.
www.nosdiet.com

I plan to start after the weekend. It's a very slow way to lose weight but I think it will work with breastfeeding.

Will weigh myself and post again later.

SMHL · 20/04/2014 10:30

I think it is slow moving, but I'm like you Lucked, I need a reason to stop grazing through the day. For me this is a way to give me the incentive to just eat properly. I know my basic eating habits are healthy, but I gain weight because I snack.
