Give up on NHS and go private?

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years now. We had one pregnancy this time last year that ended in a miscarriage at 10 weeks.

We are in the process of being seen by fertility clinics on the NHS but the waiting and service is just causing more stress! My only conversation with a doctor was a 3 minute chat on the phone where he told me my egg reserve was on the lower side and he’ll do a test to check my tubes then the next step is IVF. I suspect there may be a hormonal issue at play (based on luteal phase length etc) but they’ve not even looked at that and said rey wont. I’ve now been waiting for this next test for two months but no one can tell me how long the wait is or what the wait for IVF after is too.

Has anyone just given up on the NHS and gone private? We do have money to do it but obviously once you do, you can’t go back to the NHS and who knows how many rounds we might need.

for anyone who has gone private…What was the experience like? Were you listened to? Did the consultations last more than 5 minutes? Did you have to wait a long time between appointments? Any advice would be amazing because im on the edge of a nervous breakdown! 😂

Hi OP

We went to CRGH. Slightly different because we already knew IVF, PIGD and IUI would be needed. It was less than 6 months between walking in there for the first time and getting a positive test from my first FET. Every aspect of the care was great. I would absolutely go private if you can. I have no experience of NHS fertility treatment, but in other areas, I have long suspected they use delays as a form of cost control/rationing. Not ideal, especially if time is not on your side.

Good luck whatever you decide.

You will get much better "service" privately, but in my experience, you often get less "truth". Private companies are often happy to take your money even when the NHS would have said hopeless and stopped treatment. You may not mind this, you may be willing to pay even for a very low chance of success, but it's just something to be mindful of
