Anyone managed to get pregnant naturally at 46 with a 22 day cycle? Or is it pretty pointless trying 🤣

Naturally at 46 is very very unlikely. Not impossible, but close to.

MabelMaybe · 21/01/2025 13:37

I have been doing family tree research, and I found one woman who had her last baby at 46, but she'd have had about 7 before then, which I'm guessing boosts your chances.

Over 40 / through to about 44 I've heard of, but 46 might be at the top end. You can but try I guess.

My paternal grandmother conceived and gave birth naturally in her mid-40s (in the 1950s) ,it wasn't her first baby though.

Iloveyoubut · 21/01/2025 13:40

I don’t know about her cycle but my grandmother had her first child at 46 and her second, my mother at 48 and she was born in 1912 so genuinely anything is possible! From what I gather I don’t think she was considered a medical marvel either. Good luck! Sorry that’s all I have but thought it was worth mentioning.

When I was pregnant with DC I was 42/3. I was the oldest first time mum at my workplace at the time, but the second oldest pregnant at the same time. Colleague a year older than me. A few years later one of my other colleagues became a first time mum at 47.

Having just watched the Katie Price programme about IVF, apparently there's a 1% chance of getting pregnant at 45, using own eggs, with IVF.

There will always be surprise babies born to older women though, I suspect that's why you can take the contraceptive pill to age 55.

Was that just Katie Price's percentage chance or all women?

My own personal journey was that success came at 42. It was a year after stopping trying with fertility treatments and lifestyle adjustment and with the only trying being not using contraception. I'd say it was a last flush of fertility baby. Some would say a menopause baby. A great blessing 💕

It's fine and everyone has different approaches. I didn't try for a baby until over 30, I didnt think I'd be over 40 when we had DC but there's been nothing age related that's mattered at all. I think of grand parents as over 70 as being the right age for the GP moniker. We can all view these things as we like

Getuptherenow · 21/01/2025 14:34

I think 46 is a bit old. I wouldn't fancy your chances.

Not a biggy for some of us who didn’t start till later in life anyway, plus I’m really physically fit and healthy, just a shame our eggs don’t stay as fit and healthy 🤣

I had a surprise twin pregnancy at 45 - huge shock. We weren't trying, and had sex once that month, and that was outside of predicted fertile window. So it definitely can happen! Sadly my pregnancy didn't work out but that was due to a very rare complication that was not age related. Genetically babies were fine (full screen was done).

UndertheseaPineappleHouse · 02/02/2025 19:06

Unlikely but possible.
Remember that a percentage of older women getting pregnant in their mid to late forties in people’s historical family trees will be mothers covering up teenage daughter’s illegitimate pregnancies…

Achyarms · 15/02/2025 14:31

Ooosh personally I wouldn’t want a baby over 40 but I know it’s a super personal choice
