Feeling sad PCOS and fertility

Hi all

33 nearly 34 yr old female here. I’m feeling quite down and disheartened and wondered if anyone has had a similar experience and could make me feel a little more positive.

I have been on the combined contraceptive pill for the last 14 years and my husband I I decided to try for a family this year so I came off it at the end of February.
No luck on the pregnancy side since then and my cycles have been quite irregular, I have noticeably darker facial and body hair, bad mood swings, always hungry and trouble sleeping so booked in to see my GP to discuss. GP was great, validated my concerns and booked me in for a blood test straight away along with ultrasounds (transvaginal and external) which I am waiting on the referral for.
Had my bloods taken on Tuesday and logged into my NHS app last night to see my Serum Testosterone Levels and Sex Hormone Binding Globulin results have come back abnormal. Everything else has come back satisfactory including LH level.
I called the surgery today to see if I could discuss the abnormal results with the GP but was told she’s off for Christmas now and not back until end of January. The receptionist couldn’t guarantee another GP would call in the meantime so looks like I’ll be waiting in limbo over Christmas.

I am feeling very lost tonight. I know nothing is confirmed yet but it feels like a diagnosis of PCOS is coming and aside from the scan I have no idea what to expect with next steps 😔

Can anyone help put my mind at rest a little? Xx

I have PCOS and have two DCs. The diagnosis and treatment process in the NHS can take a while so I would advise you to bug in private if you can afford it. The private clinic I went to was able to diagnose and prescribe metformin quickly and 3 months later I had conceived my first DC.

Some online support groups are excellent - www.verity-pcos.org.uk/

I've had PCOS since puberty. I struggled with fertility. I eventually had ICSI. I had my first daughter following years of fertility treatment and my second naturally a year later.

If your overweight you need to lose weight and eat healthily. I find a diabetic diet works best.

If you have money and can afford to test it might be worth doing a couples fertility assessment at the local fertility clinic. They do some bloods, check egg reserves and will also do sperm analysis. It worth doing that to rule out male factor iissues. It think it cost about £500. In the meantime both you and Dh should take prenatal vitamins.

If either of you drink or smoke you need to cut that shit out.

I was also told to eat organic meat, eggs and milk if possible because they give the animals a lot of hormones. I couldn't afford organic meat so I did what I could and only ate organic milk, cheeses and eggs.

If you do end up having private fertility treatment Asda pharmacy doesn't make a profit on the fertility drugs. I got a private prescription for free from the fertility clinic and picked up thr drugs from Asda pharmacy. They got me everything cheaper except progesterone oil ( which i got from my clinic). One drug was £8 in the fertility clinic and asda charged me under a £.
