Contraceptive Pill Advice

I am currently taking Microgynon 30. I normally have my typical break at the end of each pack. I have a holiday coming up where I need to miss one of my scheduled breaks. Normally I would just double up my pill and then have a break after the second pack, however I have worked out that this will then cause my future pill breaks to run into other events that I have planned which will be more annoying in the future and will cause me to have to double up multiple times which I don’t really want to do.

My main question is: can I take 7 weeks worth of continuous pills (two packs + 1 week of a third) then come off as I would do as scheduled if I’d have had a break in between?I just need to miss one “period” and then be back on track with my normal break schedule. Is it safe to do this? This is the only way I’ve worked out that I can manage my “periods” without having to double up my pills at various times throughout the next 6 months.

Any advice is welcomed!

You'd just have to make sure that you take at least 21 pills before your next break as you will be leaving your pack short if only taking 1 week of pills from it.

I’m not a doctor, but it’s my understanding that there is no need to take breaks, and certainly not once a month.

I honestly can’t remember when I last had a break for a ‘period’, at least a year…

Thank you for your responses.

I have been continually taking the pill for 10 years with the odd doubling up but most commonly at the end of each pack taking a break.

I think contraception wise I’d be covered as I’d be taking two packs back to back and an additional week of one extra pack on top before I have my break. I won’t be stopping the pill completely at any point.

It is more just to check that I’m okay to stop without finishing the third pack so I can line my break back up as it normally would be?

Yes you can do that. It will complicate the months after your break as you'll need to take a week from the following pack as you'll only have 2 weeks left. Unless you take those 2 weeks and then the full 3 weeks from the 1 after to get back on track

My plan was to just start a brand new 3 week pack as I would normally after a break. Could I do that or do I have to finish the pack I stopped 1 week into to have my scheduled break once I’ve finished the break? Hope that makes sense!

Google 'tailored pill taking' you will find that there are lots of safe patterns of taking them.

You could but that would be a waste of 2 weeks of pills. As long as at least 21 pills have been taken you can take a break (which doesn't have to be as long as 7 days)

Just take then continuously long term.
Breaks are unnecessary. It's called tailored pill taking.

You can take the pill for months and months at a time. You increase the chance of getting breakthrough spotting the longer you go. At that point, stop and have a break. It is not dangerous or anything though, if the spotting is tolerable and it suits you better to wait a week then you can absolutely keep taking hormone pills and figure out the best time for your period.
So take at least 21 days, then run as long as you like taking pills, then a 1 week break.
Keep taking hormone tablets from pack after pack. Just make sure you write it down on a calendar. It can seem so obvious at the time and then a few weeks later you cannot quite remember when you started.

And to add… interesting fact, ‘creating’ a monthly period was something that started back when the pill first began back in the 1950s or so and was purely to make it seem more ‘natural’ and therefore try to make it socially acceptable.
We have been stuck with it ever since.
