How to decide on which contraceptive?

Hi, I’m looking for advice on where to start finding the best contraceptive.
Had good experiences on Microgynon prior to kids and then took Cerazette, but stopped last December as I was bleeding lightly every fortnight.
Tried to persuade DH to get the snip but he’s too squeamish. Condoms aren’t working for us.
I don’t even know where to start to figure out what would be the best contraceptive. Do I book a GP appointment (they’re v hard to come by at my surgery)? How can I get advice on this?

Following along as I have the same question and just came to post it!
I took Microgynon years ago but only when I came off it to have children was it obvious that it wasn't making me feel great. I'm reluctant to go back onto a pill (I also think after 9 years away from contraception i'd be terrible at remembering to take it).
My general plan was also to book a GP appt and ask (although maybe a Nurses appointment is what they'll recommend when I ring) but I also wanted to be more informed before I went. My little wish list is:

  • ideally non hormonal (but that might contradict with point 2 below!)
  • regular periods / can predict when my period will be OR no periods!
  • not a pill (I'll forget to take it)
  • not condoms/a cap etc.

Maybe in addition to ringing GP you could set out what you want from your contraception as a starting point?

If the GP says you can't do it through them, I'd ask where you are supposed to go for it. Might be a family planning clinic near you?
