18 year old and copper coil

My DD has a health condition which means she can’t take the combination pill. She tried a few versions of the mini pill and they made her feel dreadful- she cried, got bad skin, cried again and lost all interest in sex. She also leads a massively busy life - sport at different times of the day in different places, staying at our house, at her boyfriends house, at her friends house…. basically very hard for her to remember to always have it with her and take it at the same time. Her boyfriend is lovely but a bit hapless and there have been a couple of instances of condom failure (usually after a big night out) resulting in her needing the MAP. She doesn't want to keep worrying 2 months before A levels, so went back to the clinic to enquire about the implant. They said it was the same type of hormone as in the mini pill, only this time it’d be implanted in her arm and harder to remove if it made her feel shit.

She then got the smallest copper coil fitted (don’t know the brand but it’s a 5 year one when most are 10). Clinic were fantastic at the fitting- she was told what painkillers to take before hand and they used numbing gel and numbing injections. She had cramps for about a day but then all was fine for a few weeks. She was feeling pretty pleased!

Unfortunately last time she was with her boyfriend she got dreadful cramps mid sex and these lasted a good few hours. She went back to the clinic today in case it’s moved and apparently it’s all in the right place. However a different doctor said she’d not have suggested the coil it to her as she’s too young and her uterus might never get used to having it there. Apparently she might continue cramping for months (or permanently if her body doesn’t adjust.)

She’s pretty pissed off as this wasn’t mentioned before. I’ve googled and there isn’t anything about being too young - they say it’s easier having one inserted after having kids but nothing about being too young for one once it’s in there. Has anyone experienced this? I had the copper coil for 15 years with no bother but that was post children in my 30s so I can’t comment. She’s really upset at the thought of having it taken out, and she currently feels fine but is apprehensive.
