Brown and some bleeding.
advice appreciated. Dd started the pill last year for heavy periods. Was great no periods for months and then about 3 months ago, changed brand and bleeding and discharge. Changed back to previous brand but still same issue. Spoke with nurse today and she said stay on perhaps as must be making periods better or try implant. DD doesn’t want implant. Nurse was not versed in contraception she said. I suggested a couple of months off pill to reset and try again but no idea to be honest.

dd really distressed by constant discharge and bleeding
help please give mind

Why is she on progesterone only?

it’s not as reliable and causes breakthrough bleeding

just try her on the combined, take everyday, no breaks

fairymary87 · 24/11/2023 20:53

Is she sexually active? Couldn't be a Sti or yeast infection, maybe look at an other pill possibly

MadeFrom100percentPears · 24/11/2023 20:53

I don't have great advice but hopefully someone with better knowledge might be along soon. I was on the pill at a similar age and had some similar problems. I did try the implant which helped for a long time until I started having long bleeds on that so had it removed. I found cilest brand pill worked the best so I do think different brands have different effects. Which ones has your daughter had?

MegCleary · 24/11/2023 21:00

She’s not sexually active (& aware of being one of those naive parents but she is not yet). She has had cerelle for months no issues, then the Desogestrel for a month, we thought that caused the discharge and bleeding so went back on the cerelle. Back on the cerelle discharge and bleeding continues.

I would also recommend combined pill, unless she can't take it for some reason. DD is 16 and on combined pill for painful heavy bleeding, she takes it 2 months in a row. Doctor said she could take 3-6months without a gap, but found she got breakthrough bleeding if took it longer.

I have also had similar issues but can't take combined pill. I've tried most forms of progesterone only contraception and to be honest they have all at some point caused, irregular bleeding/discharge. I think it must be to do with my hormones.

Try combined pill rather than mini pill. Dd takes the combined pill and has done for a few years due to heavy bleeding

MegCleary · 25/11/2023 09:23

And can you take that without a break?

You can take a few packs back to back. If she gets breakthrough bleeding she can take a break of 4-7 days and then start again. She needs to have taken at least 21 pills before a break of up to 7 days to be covered against pregnancy (if sexually active).

Is there a family planning clinic she could go to for more up to date contraceptive advice?

MegCleary · 25/11/2023 09:37

That’s a good call re family planning clinic actually. As I say not sexually active but from a long line of women with awful periods. The pop was so good for 8/9 months gutted it changed

@MegCleary I've had this with progesterone only contraceptions, it's like they work for a short period of time then my body rebels. I'm not sure they are all that successful for those with very heavy bleeding as when I've looked around here similar stories.

If I could I go back to the combined pill, DD seems to get on well with it to.
