Sharp Pains With Mirena IUD

Hi everyone,
I had the Mirena IUD fitted last week, I had the Mirena after my son years ago and although I still had periods, they were much lighter and easier to deal with. I had a positive experience, so figured I'd go for it again.

I've been having cramps (I expected that) and the spotting has already stopped. However I've been having very sudden, sharp pains shoot up every now and then. There doesn't seem to be a cause. It happens when I'm sitting, laying down, walking around, crouched etc. It happens at random.

The pain feels quite far back. Not at the front like a normal cramp. It almost feels like it's from my rectum (sorry to be so crude, it's just to give a placement idea). I rang the doctor because she didn't mention a shooting pain and I didn't have this last time. She told me to wait it out until my 1 month check up with the nurse. But I'm in agony, and ibuprofen doesn't help at all. I almost feel like it's scratching me from the inside...

I know I'm probably jumping the gun a bit here, but I'm worried and the pain is just getting worse with each shock.
Did anyone else have this experience? How long did it take to settle?

Hello,

I came across your thread whilst looking for other people's experience of the mirena. I had mine fitted approx 4 weeks ago and have been experiencing something similar. Have you had any changes to your mood? I feel like the mirena has really affected mine.

Seems unusual, I'd push for a GP appointment to check. I had no issues with mine, looking forward to getting second one fitted soon. Changed my life.

A bit late replying to this, but just in case someone finds this looking for an answer.

I fought for a GP appointment again as I couldn't find the strings either. It was like getting blood out of a stone, but finally got seen. It took 2 weeks, 5 attempts to retrieve (3 of which from the best gynaecologist my hospital had to offer, apparently) but I eventually had to have surgery to remove it as it has perforated and ended up in the pocket between my uterus and rectum. Hence the weird pain so far back.

Moral of the story; if you know the pain isn't normal for you, fight until they pay attention and take you seriously!
