Mirena Coil

ScoobyBooby · 28/01/2023 10:30

So after going back and forth I decided to get the mirena coil .

Few days later I got my AF as usual on time . Since then I’ve been bleeding heavy everyday since (nearly 3 weeks ) AF usually only lasts 5 days with 2 being heavy.

Ive dealt with spotting/bleeding with the POP pills hence coming off those but GP said this was probably my best option since the hormone is released slower . I can’t have the combined pills

This is really starting to get me down . Please someone tell me it gets better !!

same, I’m two weeks in, cramping and bleeding like a period daily, fed up
already because I’d already bled 7 months solid on the pill, and I knew this would end up the same as it’s the same hormone! Frustrated xx

I was told to give it 6 months to settle, but if you’re bleeding that much I’d give them a ring and just check. You don’t want to get anaemic.
Have you checked for the strings ?

Mrsworried1 · 08/02/2023 09:28

I haven’t, feel like I should though. I just didn’t want to check while I was bleeding lots. I have a coil check appointment in a few weeks time xx

Mine never settled. I bled daily for over a year and was glad to get rid of it. Ironically, it had been put in to control heavy bleeding but made it worse.

I did have to put my foot down and insist on it being removed as doctors just kept saying that I should give it more time.

It seems to work for some people. Not me though and I wouldn't touch it again with a ten foot bargepole.

I had a bad but thankfully brief experience with Mirena, made me feel really weird (and then the strings disappeared... took 3 different drs to find and extract it, strangely enough I have never been remotely tempted by a coil since!)
Been on desogestrol pills (Cerelle/Cerazette) for ages now, occasional spotting but tbh if I am very good about taking it at the exact same time every day I get pretty much zero bleeding. I had to try a few different brands to find what worked, it's definitely about keeping going till you find the least-bad option for you!
I had a practice nurse who loved her Mirena and sang its praises to everyone - but if it's not for you, you absolutely don't have to stick with it.

Toomuchstuffwillkillme · 08/02/2023 09:54

Sorry, desogestrel, phone can't spell - what I was trying to say is that Mirena is (I think) levonorgestrel, so not exactly the same, and I know I was definitely less happy on the older levonorgestrel minipills. What brand were you on before?

Happycroc · 08/02/2023 10:22

I had this, I can’t remember exactly how long the bleeding lasted but it was a few months. Then one day it stopped and I was period free until it was removed and replaced 4 years later. I really liked it as a contraceptive, especially being period free, but the first few months were a pain.

ScoobyBooby · 19/02/2023 20:50

Sorry ladies totally forgot to come back to this thread . The bleeding actually completely stopped 2 days after I posted this. Stayed this way until last week assuming this is a lighter AF.

I am already anaemic and b12 deficiency I take daily supplements for this. All the issues with bleeding for sure has not helped this issue ! I am due a repeat blood test soon so we will see .

Ive been on Cerelle/Cerazette bled heavy everyday
had the injection as above

I used mirogynon and then logynon for years but can’t have it now due to migraines .

That’s awful and that your GP kept on insisting to keep it ! Least with a pill you can just stop it .

it’s very much hit and miss with it when I’ve had a look.
