Mirena coil couldn't be fitted due to scar tissue from c section

I went to have the mirena coil fitted today as I am fed up with the depo only lasting three months and had nothing but trouble on the implant.
The GP was trying to fit the coil but said he wasn't able to due to scar tissue from my c section 3 years ago.
Has anyone had anything like this before?
He has referred me to the hospital but that could be a long wait so depo it is until it can be fitted at the hospital.
Thank you for reading

It hasn't happened to me yet.. but I just had my 3rd section 3 weeks ago. I asked my consultant about the coil.
She told me to come back in 3 months and she will put me asleep to insert it because of the scar tissue.

Thank you I tried to Google it but nothing was coming up.
Hoping the referral will go through a bit quicker and I can talk to someone who knows a bit more about it

I had one fitted, it was very painful due to scar tissue (so much so the GP remembered without looking at my notes) my GP continued with the procedure at my request and once the initial bleeding and pain settled down after a few days I didn't have any more trouble with it, and it came out really easily.

That's good to hear that it can still be done. Gp refused to keep going so just waiting for the referral but thank you for the reply

I have had two coils fitted (both successfully had first out after 6 years) and due to endo had to have them both done in hospital under GA. I have understood that the more experience your coil fitter has, the better outcome for placement and it remaining with no probs.

I would definitely press for a fitting at hospital with an experienced consultant who can work around the scar tissue and have some kind of sedation / anaesthetic.

No way will I be attempting the next fitting at the GP. It’s pretty shocking indictment of the pain women are expected to put up with for things like coil fittings. Good luck with it, it’s worth the wait to have done properly.

Thank you I did think this maybe the case with lack of experience. He then proceeded to try and persuade me against the coil and to go back to other contraception so ended up leaving with the depo to tie me over.

I should say the GP who fitted mine is very experienced and would have stopped, she was very surprised at the level of pain I experienced but as she'd got the tube part in by that point (so the worst bit) I asked her to continue.
