Copper Coil

Hi All ,

Do any of you ladies currently have the copper coil and would you recommend it ?

I can’t have the combined pill due to migraines and the mini pill or any type of progesterone only contraceptive does not agree with me .

GP seems to think the only option going forward is the copper coil on.

Annoying because the combined pill was amazing until I started getting these headaches. I recently had my 4th child and our family is complete so looking for something long term !

Thanks x

I’ve had the copper coil for almost a year now and I’ve had no problems so far. Uncomfortable getting it placed but by no means very painful (and I had a c section, no natural births). Periods were slightly more painful and heavier the first couple of months but otherwise fine. I didn’t want any hormonal contraception so this worked out well for me. I just got the mini one that lasts approx 5 years.

Thank you for your reply !

Ive had 4 natural births so hopefully won’t be as uncomfortable . I’ve had to stop the mini pill due to prolonged bleeding !

So glad the coil is working well for you. Must be amazing not having to worry about taking a pill etc each day . Think I am just gonna go for it !
Thank you x x

I had it and unfortunately it was a disaster. 6 years after its removal I'm still suffering pelvic pain and being investigated for possible scarring/adhesions. Not that this will happen to you, of course! I now have the Mirena which might work for you?

I've had them for over 20 years, my periods are heavy but not enough for me to swap to something else. No period pain. I get on with it fine

Rosebud100 · 04/10/2022 18:46

Made my (previously very light) periods very heavy for about 6 months but has now settled down and while they are still heavier than before gives me no issues.

I've had mine for about 4 years. It's amazing! So nice to not have to think about contraception! My periods didn't get heavier but they've always been light, if anything they seem lighter! I would say my period pain is a little worse and I can feel when I ovulate as a get cramping then for a day or two as well. The fitting of it wasn't the nicest but it lasts 10 years so worth it. I felt crampy for a couple of days after having it fitted and had a bit of spotting.

I've had one for six years, can't fault it.

I had an ectopic pregnancy on my coil and needed the coil itself surgically removed after it perforated my uterus - I would never have one again!

Oh no sorry it’s been a nightmare for you ! I hope they find out what’s causing the pelvic pain .

I cannot have the Mirena due to it only containing one hormone apparently !

I had copper coil. I can't have mini pill because of migraines. And I have a "adverse reaction" to progesterone so with the implant and mirena coil I had pregnancy symptoms every month. Producing milk, morning sickness, weight gain, nausea and worst low moods.

My periods didn't really change as I have endometriosis so my periods are heavy anyway. Worked for me before having DD and after
