Can I really be ovulating this late?

Hi, new to this so please bare with me 😂 I was on the pill for 3years and stopped taking it 5 months ago, since then my cycle has gone like this... 2nd/3rd of each month, lite spotting for a day or so and symptoms start like cramping, bloating, tiredness ect. 7th/8th start of period (Heavy bleeding) lasts on average 8-10days which would be 15th-17th ish of each month. I've used the clear blue ovulation kits the last 2 cycles and both have said Im ovulating 27th/28th each month, just wondering if anyone else's cycles are like this, I didn't realise you could ovulate so late when I'm getting all my periods symptoms literally a few days later? Anyone managed to conceive when ovulating so late and if so how long did it take you? DC1 took 3 months, but DC2 took over 2.5 years, numerous hospital apts and couldn't find any reason as to why it we hadn't convinced, so nervous that will happen again this time 😬 both me and DP are late 20s/early 30s. Thanks 😊

You are not ovulating this late. Assuming you have normal length cycles you are ovulating somewhere in the middle. These tests measure LH which increases just before period starts and stays high into period - that's what you are seeing!

Thank you for your reply, I didn't realise this happened. My cycles are 31days, so if my period finishes on the 17th, and obv 27th/28th is too late any ideas on when I'd be ovulating? Or when to start testing? Thank you 🙏

Stepping away from the tests, when does your mucus change to egg white consistency? I have never bothered with the tests because it is so clear for me when I get this - I know a lot of women don't find this so easy, but just thought I would mention it if you are struggling with the testing.

Can't say I've really noticed a specific date that it changes to that, when that changes is that when I'm ovulating or due to ovulate? Might try that instead, thank you 😊

Sorry, I'm getting a bit confused now with the difference between dates and cycle days!

31days cycle:

Period starts on 12th (CD1)
Period finishes on the 17th (CD5)
27th (CD15) positive LH test of some kind
11th of next month (CD31) period starts again

If this is the timing you mean then that's totally normal - typical ovulation on a 28 day cycle is between cycle day 12 and 15ish so 31 day cycle would be day 14 to 18 approx? You'd expect LH tests to be strong around ovulation then around CD28 onwards

Sorry didn't explain it very well did I 😅 right so say march..
March 2nd- Light spotting, period pains start
March 7th- (CD1) Period starts
March 15/17(CD8-CD10) period stops.
March 27th/28th (CD20/21) ovulation on tests.
Then April 2nd spotting starts (CD26)
Period on 7th April (CD31)
Is this normal? Just feels strange that I'm ovulating and few days later start spotting, the few more and periods arrives
Xx

The period-ovulating gap is normal but the spotting can indicate progesterone and vitamin issues which can impact implantation (and therefore likelihood of successful pregnancy). I'd ask the GP to do day 3 and day 21 hormone bloods to check them all.

Sorry that post sounds dead scary reading it back - it could be totally fine and just your bodies normal gig, but it COULD indicate a problem and always better safe than sorry

I need to go to bed I read the title and was like of course you can ovulate at 10pm Grin

I think it sounds pretty normal op but maybe you should check with doc over the spotting

Buttons0x · 03/05/2022 01:12

Thank you so much for all your replies, think I'll check with the doctor cus it was the spotting I was most worried about, thanks again 🙏

I was told I wasn't ovulating - turns out I was just v late in the cycle. Three kids now.

motherofthelittlescreamingone · 03/05/2022 09:33

Sorry for late reply, yes egg white mucus is when you have ovulated and are mega fertile

Buttons0x · 03/05/2022 11:22

Okayy will keep a look out for that, thank you all for your replies 🙏

You can be ovulating that late but if you are, it could suggest a leutral phase defect of some sort. BUT I have read lots and lots of posts from women here who have come off the pill and it has taken months for their cycles to regulate. It could be that (most probably is) and it is just a matter of time until it sorts itself out.

No harm in asking for blood tests though.

You've posted in the contraception topic.

If you are intending to use NFP, then you need to wait until your cycle has stabilised, and use barrier methods until it has.

For effective NFP, it helps to have a pretty regular cycle. But the key thing s to combine charting your basal temperature with symptom tracking (eg assessing cervical mucus) and with only a nod to the calendar ( as it can be misleading). Also do not rely on OPKs as a sole method, even thought they are sold with that kind of blurb (the small print says it's not guaranteed). Always track temperature as well. And chart at least three months (preferably more, to get to really know your cycle and possibly spot the more subtle signs - such as increased libido) before relying on it as a contraceptive method.
