Coil removal advice!

HereTodayHereTomorrow · 19/02/2022 16:36

Having my coil out on Monday to see what life is like after 20+ Years of hormones. Having it put in was agony and I had no painkillers, but it was put in at a hospital by a gyno, this time it’s a Nurse in a GP taking it out so hopefully it’ll be nicer!
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to make it more comfortable? Will my partner be allowed in to hold my hand? (Or is that a terrible idea?)
TIA - I’m really, really nervous after the pain last time.

Hi there I've had my coil out and then replaced and honestly the removal was Fairly painless I coughed and they pulled at the same time . I find them being put in more painful

I'm not sure if partners would be allowed in now, but when I went last time my husband did come in and sit next to me to hold my hand just for some comfort

At our surgery your partner could come depending on current local covid levels.
It isn't usually a big deal because it is very quick and you don't have instruments grasping or poking your cervix.
Take some ibuprofen before hand,i quick pull ( brief pain) and that should be it .

I've had two coils now, getting them out was no problem at all, they just ask you to cough and then they say "all done, you can get dressed now!"

However, I had a hormonal coil in and it was taken out this past summer. What no one told me about was the amount of blood that would come out after. I had expected a slightly heavy period, as I'd had the coil in for 4 years. I unexpectedly bled and had cramps for 4 days, really heavily, with clots. I was going through a super tampon in 1.5 hours and soaking a pad also, I was getting really concerned. It eased off after 4 days, and then my normal periods started a month later. I hadn't got enough sanitary protection in so had to make a dash to the shops, so I wish someone had told me of the possibility of this happening so I could be prepared.

I know it's not what you asked in your post, but maybe it will be helpful.
