Looking for minimal hormonal contraception

So I've been posting elsewhere but just as a bit of context, I'm 40 years old with two children and not planning anymore. I've not had a period since mid October, not on any birth control, negative pregnancy tests and got a doctor appointment to discuss. Anyway, my question is around contraception. I've had a massive hormone surge these last few months which has given me a crazy sex drive - good for our relationship but not good when no proper birth control is in place and we don't want another baby. Before our family, I'd always used the pill but that totally killed my sex drive, so I don't want that to happen again. Been considering the Mirena coil, I know it's hormone based but I just wondered others experiences of to which degree they felt it affected them this way. Not keen on trying copper coil due to heavy periods associated with it. Would like to hear any other experiences of contraception with minimal hormonal impact.

Just to add, my husband is willing to consider a vasectomy, but there's no pressure from me for him to do it, it's his body and it has to be his choice. I've also had very erratic and heavy periods for the last year or so, so some form of birth control would also help me with this.

I couldn't get on with the Mirena coil as it gave me debilitating pain and horrible painful hormonal acne on my chin without any heads to pop. However, the implant has been a dream for me.

The Mirena would give you effective contraception and also be very likely to improve your periods.

Some women don’t get on with progesterones, but I think it’s worth a try for you.

I’m rubbish on progesterone, so got the copper coil - i was lucky that i was 3m post partum, so my periods didn’t return until 11 months (breast feeding) and i think my body had a chance to adjust during that time.

Periods are slightly longer (7-8 days) I get one VERY heavy day (about day 5/6 of my period weirdly) but the rest is lighter and with no cramps, so no suffering. Genuinely wish i’d done this years ago and not had to faff about with condoms so long.
