Mirena Procedure q's

Hello,

I had a thread here a few weeks back about removal of mirena.

You were all very kind and supportive (and right) in that I didn't even feel it - the speculum was the worst bit.

The nurse discussed contraception going forwards. I'm obviously scared of insertion as I've heard it's far worse (I had this one put in under a general during a different procedure so I've no idea).

The nurse said that given how my cervix was very 'easy', and that people who experience the pain are usually those with more 'difficult' cervixes. Obviously this doesn't mean much to me!

I would like another mirena as I've found it the best contraception for me so far.

That said, I've recently become tee total, and ditched my antidepressants in the process, so perhaps a hormone loaded solution might not be best right now.

Can anyone comment on their insertion, whether you've been told your cervix is 'easy' etc and what that means in practice?!

TIA

Hi , if you're worried I would recommend looking into going to a sexual health clinic to have it fitted. They do more fittings and might be able to offer you numbing gel plus possibly local anaesthetic injection . I certainly haven't got an easy cervix as never had kids but found the procedure much more manageable this way.
A friend 9f mine had hers fitted after having had children naturally and said it was not painful at all with no pain relief. The cervix changes after childbirth making it much easier. Hope this helps and hope it goes well for you x
