The pill and moodswing

Hi. I am asking on behalf of a 17 year old family member. We have looked at google however we were hoping for some first hand experience and advice before making a decision. She is on Levest the combined pill and has been taking it for 10 months. Since taking it she feels that her mood swings have gotten worse and in particular feelings of intense irrational anger and low mood. All of the information we've seen seems to point to Yaz or the mini pill as being a better option but the information is often contradictory. Some of the information says that Levest is one of the better ones for mood swings but she definitely feels a change since taking it. Has anyone got any first hand experience of the pill and how it affects your mood and was changing it better or worse? Thank you.

Has she explored the possibility of taking packets back to back (no gap) to regulate things? I used to B2B three packets before taking the 7 day break.

No she hasnt. She has done that once or twice when she didn't want a period but hasn't done it over a period of time. The mood issues are almost every day and not just when she is due for a period. Do you think taking them back to back for a few months might help for daily mood swings?

Hmm, well if it's not looking like it's her hormonal level, then maybe it's just not the right one for her?

There are lots of alternative Pills, with carrying combinations of hormones in them - perhaps another one would be better? If she can speak to the local Family Planning Clinic, I found them MUCH more helpful for anything contraception related then the GP or practice nurse.

She does plan on going to the clinic but in our area its hard to get an appointment. Its such a mind field because it could just be being a teenager and having had a rubbish couple of years or it might be related to taking the pill.

My daughter is in exactly the same position. She is taking Yasmin and has done for the last six months. Her mood js so low and always tired. I have been doing so much research into it and it seems that Yasmin has this as a common side effect. I don't know what the answer is abs which one to swop to. This js her second one.

It's such a worry isn't it. All of them have various effects so I'm reluctant to encourage her to change it incase the next one is worse. What was your daughter on before and why did she change to Yasmin?

She has just been advised to stop taking the Yasmin pill immediately as she is getting headaches, now they are scared of blood clots. Having a review on Friday, all so worrying. Sorry to not be more positive or reassuring.

Good luck at the review. I would be interested to hear how you/she got on and what advice was given. I had thought about the mini pill for my daughter but the I've heard too many people claim to have gotten pregnant using that one.
