Which method of contraception suited you best?

Which contraception did everyone find best suited them?

I tried the mini pill years ago, but it made me feel like I was going nuts.

Had the depo injection a few months back, and absolutely loved it until I started bleeding. It still hasn't stopped 5 months later.

Tried to have the coil, but they couldn't get it in!!

Which one did you find best?

Non hormonal coil.

Merina coil. no periods. no bothering for 5 years. was awesome. Just came off to TTC

Cervical cap (Lea's shield) with spermicide suited me best before my spouse had a vasectomy.

Bit more awkward in the moment, but I didn't have any pregnancy scares while using it (& I got pregnant within a few months when not using it so was obviously pretty effective for me) and it suited me both in personality and in concerns about contraindications with other options.

Combined pill. Low dose one though.

DH having a vasectomy Grin

Before that I had the Implanon/Nexplanon implant. I've had 3 with no scares or major issues aside from being moody bugger sometimes, paused between 1st and 2nd to have child #2 then back on it.

Have had Depo and Mini pill in the past which didn't agree with me at all.

non hormonal coil here too. Hormones made me put on weight ☹

I'm extremely lucky in that I've never had any problems with the pill. I was on Regevidon from when I was 16 until I came off it when I was 21 when my husband and I wanted to ttc. I never had any problems at all.

I had my baby then at the 6 week check I went back on it as I was exclusively formula feeding. I specifically asked for that one because that's what I was on so it seemed to make sense.

I had problems taking it. It made me feel sick and I couldn't take it. So I switched to Microgynon 30, and it was the best thing I've ever done. It was better for me in every way.

As I say I've never had any problems with weight gain or my hormones or anything else. I always make sure I take it at the same time every day. On my first pill my withdrawal bleeds were fine. On my second they were slightly shorter and lighter, it just works better for me. (I know I've been told in the past they are exactly the same. But I can't explain it. It was the doctor who suggested I change so I assumed there must be some differences).

Now I take my pills back to back, without my week break. I do this for 6 months. So I take 6 strips in a row without a break. Then I have a break for 1 week, when I have my withdrawal bleed. Then I start again for 6 months. So I only have 2 bleeds a year, or a bleed every 6 months, as the months do not follow the calendar January to December.
It's brilliant and doesn't impact on me at all

I couldn't imagine having proper periods. I'd hate it. When I was off the pill ttc I hated it so much. Again I never suffered with my proper periods before I was on the pill, I had no cramps or anything. It's just the pill makes it much easier still. And I know it’s not recommended and I AM NOT suggesting that anyone else does this or tries this, but it works perfect for me so I’ll stick with it.

Getting my tubes tied. Absolutely brilliant.

Einszwei · 05/05/2021 02:22

Nuvaring. Easy to use with mild side effects. Didn't have to think about it on a day to day basis like the pill.

Vasectomy for DH. Which he had done after our third baby was born and our family complete.

I didn't want to go back onto hormonal contraception.
