Taking the Morning after pill after ovulation

Hi,

I'm looking for advice with regards to levonelle.

On Sunday evening I had a contraceptive failure, on Monday/yesterday I'm as sure as I can be that I ovulated( all the usual signs EWCM, left pelvic pain and back ache, Ive tracked ovulation using an app for years and it helps me predict when my period will arrive, works very well)

I ordered Levonelle online and it's due to arrive tomorrow, I've only taken it once before which was about 20 years ago, I don't know much about it but thought that it stopped implantation, but after too much time Googling apparently this is not the case and if ovulation has already taken place it doesn't work.

Should I still take the Levonelle? Or could this cause problems if I am pregnant? I don't know what to do - does anyone have any experience of this?

Hi Camden
You're right that Levonelle is ineffective if taken after ovulation. However, there's no evidence that any harm is caused if pregnancy occurs around the time Levonelle is taken. Obviously it's unethical to do proper randomised trials to study this specific issue, but a couple of decades of data are available showing no harm in cases where it has failed in its action as an emergency contraceptive.
You're not too late for an emergency IUD in this cycle, if you can be certain of your last period/cycle length and the predicted date of ovulation. It's much more effective than Levonelle/ellaOne, and can be fitted up to 5 days after ovulation.

It does have some useful secondary effects (making your environment less favourable for implantation) but it's far from a sure thing

So yes, seek an emergency coil fitting
