Sterilisation / Implant or Coil

I've stopped taking my Contraceptive pill (Cerazette) because I wanted to give my body a break from hormones and to have a period as they stopped while I was taking it.

I definitely do not want any more kids. I'm 43 with an adult son and a teen. I have been considering getting sterilised but after having a good read on all of the options I'm now wondering whether to opt for the implant instead?
I've never tried the coil it doesn't appeal to me and the thought of it freaks me out a little. The effectiveness of the coil seems to be about the same as sterilisation so then I wouldn't have to go through an invasive procedure either.

Can anyone give me any advice on sterilisation or the implant?

Im 45 and same situation.

I can't get sterilised in my area, they just won't allow it through the NHS, and it's £3k private. They just push you onto the Mirena as an alternative.

I can't have a coil due to intensive cervical scarring, I would need an operation to insert one- my argument being if they are putting me out anyway just sterilise me fgs!

Had the implant twice in my thirties and both times had to beg to have it removed after 6 months due to constant bleeding, weight gain and basically being an aggressive angry mood swinging lunatic! No idea why I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it twice.

If your GP will refer you for sterilisation I would go for that definitely although I'm sure lots of people will have more positive experiences of the implant than me.

I am 41 and I have had the implant for 9 years or so and have been taking other forms of contraception for 20 years plus.

I spoke to a doctor about sterilisation, as I don’t want children and have a very strong fear of childbirth etc. I also don’t want to keep pumping my body full of hormones etc.

The doctor in question, tried to talk me out of it by saying all the negative things that could happen as result of having the procedure.

I was left with the impression that I don’t have right to not keep pumping my body full of hormones in bid not get pregnant, and I should just have the coil fitted.

He has referred my, but I feel my right to be sterilised is clearly not my own and that I will forced to have coil fitted which I don’t want.

It has left me very upset.

Sterilisation is much more expensive than LARC, and the failure rate is actually similar (can be lower) is why doctors and contraception nurses tend to recommend it.

But if you feel strongly that sterilisation is the right choice, then keep pushing for it.

There have been some long threads in this topic about implants and they clearly do not suit everyone
