Pulmonary embolism

When I was 24, few weeks pregnant with my son I was lying on the sofa.. I went to stand up and when I took a breath I couldn't breathe in deeply, like it felt as though there was something in my chest blocking me from breathing deeply...it hurt if I tried to. Pain radiated in to my lower jaw and my left arm felt numb/achy... I had my daughter with me and by the time I'd got clothes on and went to drop her at my mom's just round the corner the pain had stopped.. But I had a slower than normal heart rate-55ish. It all lasted around 20/25 minutes...i was completely panicked and looked very pale afterwards.

The only other thing was I had my blood tested around the same time and it came back that I had severe anemia probably caused by not eating much and throwing up for weeks...

In the end I didn't call 999, I just text my midwife who never got back to me.. I booked a Dr's appointment later that week and they blew it off but I really thought it was a heart attack but after obsessively using symptom checkers I realised it could have been an embolism... and now Its putting me off getting pregnant again...really want one more to complete our family but not at the risk of this happening again and me dying..

I don't know what to do about it now tho because its been 4 years since it happened and Dr's never sent me for blood tests or anything.

Any advice?

It wasn't a pulmonary embolism - your symptoms absolutely would not have got better by themselves if it was, especially after twenty minutes! It must have been scary, but it does really sound as though your anaemia was the likely culprit.

As pp says, pulmonary embolisms do not go away by themselves and are a serious life threatening condition requiring emergency treatment, heart attacks are the same.

Anaemia along side a pregnant bump causes breathing issues.

Maybe acute indigestion?

I really have no idea what it was, but it has left a lasting anxiety that's hard to shift!!
I saw something on another forum about one's that resolve without treatment and for some reason it's completely sent me spiralling.
I only felt pain when trying to breathe in and it was impossible like my chest was being crushed. It's sound like a heart attack but surely can't be

Sounds like a horrible experience, but an actual embolism is much worse. I had one just after I had my son. Got steadily more breathless over a week, couldn’t sleep, pain in one side. I assumed it was a chest infection but couldn’t get a doctor’s appointment. When I did I was taken to the cardiac ward immediately, given thrombalytics, kept in hospital for a week and then had a full year of warfarin treatment with weekly checks.

You've posted in the 'contraception' topic, but don't mention the method you are currently using

Are you after recommendations of what is most suitable for you, whilst you sort out the other health issues?

Well I assumed family planning meant trying for a baby. Me and oh want to start trying but this is putting me off/worrying me. Clearly got the wrong board lol
