Anyone feel better stopping long term contraception

Hi ladies,
Just curious, having been on contraception for the best part of 24 years (apart from a 3 year gap trying to conceive) and I've just had to stop all hormonal contraception for a few months to check hormone levels for early menopause since my periods have still not returned after having the nightmare mirena removed and going on the Evra patch,

It's only been a few weeks and so far I feel so much better less bloated, happier and calm it may well be psychological but just wondering has anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks x

Absolutely. I have been using the mirena coil and got it removed last week because after getting it fitted just over a year ago my anxiety and depression took a huge dive and I just felt awful. It's only been a week but I feel like me again, which sounds crazy but it's a huge relief! X

Yes I stopped 6 months ago as I am 45, can't have a coil/mirena, Gp refused to sterilise me and DH is terrified of operations and hospital in general so I didn't want to push vasectomy. I was sick of taking artificial hormones, have tried them all over 28 years and none agree with me.

So far I am much calmer, happier and my sex drive has come back with a vengeance! Have also lost nearly a stone without really trying.

I'm now tracking my cycle on an app to avoid pregnancy. Even though an unplanned pregnancy wouldn't be the end of the world at my age I would avoid where possible.

@happymum91 sorry to hear your mirena experience was awful too I really had to fight to get mine out I constantly felt like I was waiting for something bad to happen. It's amazing how good I feel now I'm not on anything but not sure how to proceed.
@Elzbells cycle tracking sounds like a good plan but as after mirena my periods haven't returned I'm a bit stuck, my hubbie refused point blank for the snip but the thought of falling pregnant now is not filling me with deep joy we've got 10yr old twin boys Filling up with puberty hormones to teenage hood by the day whilst I'm approaching menopause, probably not a great combo ... lol
