As post states, Mirena is due to be replaced/taken out in March but due to the virus, they havent been able to do it. My GP has said she can take out but not replace and family planning still hasnt re opened....is anyone else over due having it out? Also has anyone got any experience of having it out and not replacing. I've only had spotting for every month, how long after taking it out should I have a period etc ..

We're you advised to take other precautions as its expired? Although it apparently lasts longer than 5 years.

Yes, I was told that. They do say risk of infection if overdue, but they dont seem that worried.

I’m in the same position!

Do we have any ideas when family planning can reopen?

If schools are opening soon with no masks, social distancing or limitations on numbers, then hopefully it won’t be long!

Mine was due out in February no idea when I'll be able to get it removed.

My last one was in for almost 7 years & I had no issues with it being in for so long over the recommended time of 5 years. (That one was my own fault for not getting it sorted but as I wasn't using it for contraception by that point I wasn't particularly bothered)

It's ridiculous isnt it...the GP even said surely they should be open soon!! They can wear correct PPE, the patient can wear a mask. I dont understand it!

I feel like I want a little break before I have another one put in. But my periods were so heavy before before I'm worried. I've also now got a job which you cant get to a toilet easily!

Nhs says this :

It might not be possible to have an IUS fitted or replaced at the moment.

Most IUSs can be left in and will continue to work for up to 6 years. But if you have a low-dose IUS, it’s unlikely to work after:

5 years, for Kyleena
3 years, for Jaydess

If your low-dose IUS is due to be replaced and you do not want to get pregnant, use condoms or the progestogen-only pill for now.

Same here due out in Dec! Have had no periods though so I'm assuming it's still working and its running out surely can't be an exact science? Well that's what I'm telling myself anyway.

Taking other precautions so on contraception front fine. Am slightly worried about it being overdue though in terms of messing up what has been an amazing experience with the coil if periods start again.

I actually was booked in (Dec) to get it removed but they couldn't find it Hmmso got sent for a scan (all fine) but with all the delays lockdown happened and nothing since.

Suppose what I'm saying is I'm not concerned but actually will ring the docs on Monday after writing all this down!

Smears have started again so it can’t be long until family planning and sexual health clinics reopen surely.

I the meantime I’d be using condoms. I’d leave the coil in as it’s clearly stopping period problems and you don’t want those, even if it can’t prevent pregnancy, hence condoms too.
