Over 40 which contraceptive?

I'm looking for advice / opinion as feeling a bit confused about the array of contraceptive options and the bad stories of some of them.
Background am 43 have been using condoms since birth of daughter 5 years ago but am fed up with the faff. Previously was on the pill for 20+ years so really have no experience of anything else.
I suspect the dr will send me down the coil route but keep reading bad stories. Has anyone else experience of this or the implant?

I'm not sure my brain is in gear enough to remember to take the pill nowadays.
TIA

Tubal ligation or vasectomy for your partner.

I've got an IUS. It's great. No issues aside from a month of being spotty. Settled down now.

I had Mirena coil fitted age 43, 18 months ago , it was a pretty horrible fitting (when they say "discomfort " they mean "it's going to hurt") and I spotted for 4 months, but since then it has been remarkable. No side effects and much lighter periods. I would thoroughly recommend at least trying it if you think it could be an option for you, absolutely life-changing for the better in my case. I would not dream of faffing with pills or condoms again.

Oh, PS many friends in 40s and 50s have told me, OH getting the snip has been their preferred birth control. It was a revelation to me as I had no idea it was so common and blokes so cool with the idea.

I went back on the cmobined pill. They say it is safe up to 50 (menopause) now. I'm 47 and it's been brilliant. I stopped for a few months and started getting peri menopause signs and going back on the pill stopped those too (as it has some form of oestrogen in). So it's been extra good for me and tbh, I'm dreading having to come off it!

Thank you that's good to hear your experiences.

Contrary to the person who experienced pain above, I barely felt it. Mind you I've had two largish babies, vaginally :)

None for me (infertility but if I do get pregnant by some miracle then fine) but my friends either have the coil or their husbands have the snip. It's 50/50 I think.
