Anyone else had a Withdrawal bleed lasting only 36 hours!?

Hi, I’ve been on the pill revigidon for 14 months now. I take the pill to help with heavy periods. I also take tranexamic acid

I back to back my pills.

In January I had a breakthrough bleed and stopped my pill for 4 days as my GP said and took tranexamic acid from the first sign of the withdraw bleed; I had a very light 4 day withdrawal bleed.

This month I’ve had a very red and clotty breakthrough bleed so stopped my pill; withdrawal bleed arrived after 2 days and I took my tranexamic acid fromtbenfirst sign of the withdraw starting; the withdrawal was bright red then brown and over in 48 hours. What the heck!

Anyone had anything like this?

I’ll probably ring my gp on Monday but having spoken to the nurse about an unrelated issue this week, I’m looking at a weeks wait for a telephone appointment that’s none urgent.

Well yes if you’re taking tranexamic acid in your HFI you’re not going to bleed much at all.

The fact you had a 4 day bleed last time and only a 2 day bleed this time means very little.

@Sidge what is HFI?

Not something to bother the GP with then? I guess I expect to have a lengthier withdrawal bleed as previously that’s what I’ve experienced on this pill and others.
I know my withdrawal bleed prior to the January 4 day was longer as it was badly timed on my part!

Sorry - hormone free interval.

Don’t place too much importance on the length of any withdrawal bleed as it’s an artificial bleed anyway. If prolonged and you’re also taking the tranexamic acid then yes see the GP but otherwise I wouldn’t worry too much.

You could try starting the tranexamic acid at the start of the breakthrough bleeding, it might avoid the withdrawal bleed.

@sidge
Thanks; I take it this is you area of expertise in the way you write.

Maybe i should accept the luxury of a short bleed after prolonged back to back pill taking

I’m no expert lol but I am a specialist practice nurse.

Disclaimer - Always talk to your GP if you’re concerned, and obviously I don’t know your history.

Whyismycatanasshat · 08/05/2020 13:39

@sidge that makes you pretty high up in the knowledge league!
Other than a textbook pregnancy and c-section 16 months ago and heavy periods - not investigated - my medical history is clear!
The issue I have is I was, along with several others, the victim of a GP who assaulted teenage girls. Which means when I’m in the doctors room I struggle to talk about issues so I’m really grateful you’ve taken the time to reply.

I’m sorry to hear of your experience @Whyismycatanasshat 😕

Would writing it down before you go help? Then you can just hand it over.

Whyismycatanasshat · 08/05/2020 19:48

If it’s anything above the waist I’m fine; anything below and I’m a wreck.
I try and write stuff down but some of the GPs are a bit dismissive and want you to actually say what you’ve written down.
One GP is wonderful and the practice nurse is great. She remembers my past trauma without prompting and is generally excellent.
