I’m about mid cycle, always go between 26-29 days. I can’t take the pill, and just really don’t like the idea of the coil. So me and DH are happy to use condoms and not had any problems on the 5 years since our last child.
But last night we had a mishap with the condom and I’ve taken Ellaone today.
I’m just worried because I imagine that I’ve probably already ovulated. I always get hot flushes around that time.
Is the MAP still effective if ovulation has already occurred? Reading mixed things online.
Sorry just a bit naive when it comes to MaP as never even read about it before now.
With my previous pregnancies I planned them and got pregnant on the first tries. So just really paranoid 😓

It does act by disrupting ovulation, but also has secondary effects in terms of making you a more hostile environment for implantation (mucus and uterine lining changes), so it could still work.

You could also seek an emergency coil fitting

I fell pregnant after taking MAP.

Don't even try it. It's not as effective as a more, regular taking contraception.

And once ovulation has occurred then it is not effective! Only other option you have is to get the copper coil within 5 days of unprotected sex as that's more effective then the MAP

If you had already ovulated then it won't have been effective as the way it works is to delay ovulation and therefore prevents an egg being released and able to meet up with sperm which can live for up to 5 days inside the female reproductive system. It doesn't work like a termination pill so if an egg was already fertilised then chances are it won't have done what you hoped it would do.

Be on the look out for signs as MAPs do increase the chances of ectopic pregnancies so if you get a positive test make sure you inform your GP right away that you took it.

I've just this minute got off the phone with mine and she said generally speaking if you get pains on one side at around week 7 that could be a sign. I'm nearly 2 Wks late after EllaOne with negative test but I'm to keep testing every 7 days.

Good luck and hope it all works out for you
