DD bleeding one week on from coil insertion

Hi
DD is 22 and had a Jaydess fitted a week ago. The insertion didn't go well as the GP tried and failed to fit a Mirena, and then fitted this which she said was smaller. DD has been bleeding and cramping heavily for a week now. She is waiting for a call back from the GP's surgery, but I'm tempted to take her to A&E in case she needs an Xray. Am I overreacting, or is this within the expected after effects?

It can happen. Likleyhood is is that the doctor has wounded the cervix by trying to get the mirena in.

It's also possible that this is a side effect of the coil itself. It should settle down.

I wouldnt go to A&E unless shes bleeding heavily enough to soak a pad an hour.

Wait on the GP calling back and see what they say.

I will say that when I first went on the pill I bled for a month straight then it just stopped and went back to normal.

A&E is a total overreaction. Bleeding one week after fitting is normal.

She’ll have been told in the appointment to expect bleeding and cramping for the first week or two, and you are to follow up at the GP after 6 weeks. If the bleeding isn’t heavy and there’s no fever or other side effects then it’s probably normal. It’s certainly not an A&E matter. If you are concerned then she should make a GP appointment.

Bleeding and cramping normal for 6 months with a mirena - so unless it’s incredibly severe I wouldn’t imagine it’s a problem!

Totally normal (although horrible, coils are awful imo.) as a previous poster says, A&E only if soaking a pad in an hour or heavy bleeding combined with other symptoms of infection.

Thanks all. She's managed to get an appointment with a GP to get it checked this pm.

I bled heavily for nearly 11 months..

every time I asked for help/advise.. I was told it would 'settle' .. well 11 months passed, and I managed o get an emergency appointment with a locum GP, who was horrified and sent me to a&e to have the Merina Coil removed. I was so low in iron, I had to get iron infusions for several months. I know it works wonders for some, but not me, I would never get it again.

Keep a very close eye on your daughters bleeding OP. Flowers
