Copper coil questions

After having the very common experiences with hormonal birth control (mood swings depression increased anxiety loss of libido), I have decided to go to the doctors about getting a copper coil

Was looking for any advice, information on what it's like to get it put in, how it happens and where (is it at a hospital or GP, very nervous in hospitals).

Mine was done 4 years ago at my doctors it is mildly painful. Others may say it's more or less. Sorted my hormonal issues right out. I've had some other issues recently that I'm 100% certain is nothing to do with the copper coil however after a year and a half of doctors appointments they recommended I change to the hormonal coil to help. Getting it out was not painful at all but they had to put a clamp on my cervix to change it over and it was extremely painful. So if you are intending on getting another one in after the copper one needs changed bare that in mind.

Forgot to say it's like a smear test. They put the spectrum in to hold everything open and just push it in basically. They will see you again in 6weeks to check your threads (your advices to check them yourself every 6 months after) and as long as you have no problems that's you

I took the pill and it gave me a pulmonary embolism so my doctors thought it was not to use hormonal contraception again.
I didn’t want the copper coil but was my only option really. Actually procedure wasn’t nice but wasn’t horrific, it was bearable and I am a massive wuss and drama queen. I was a bit unsteady on my feet when I first stood up but managed the short walk home. I would recommend bringing someone along with you or not driving and getting a taxi because like I say I did feel a bit woozy after and from what I’ve heard some people feel completely fine and others not so much so I think it’s a hard thing to gauge.
From then on I had bleeding fairly heavily, although I do take blood thinners, and I experienced a lot of pain for about a week. I thought something wasn’t right and returned to my gp to find out the person who carried out the procedure left a piece of cotton inside me which was obviously what was irritating me! Anyway, from then on I had a settling in period of about 5/6 months where my I had my periods as normal but in all honesty they were horrendous. Really heavy bleeding and pains which have always been uncharacteristic for my body. After that time they settled down. Had it in for just over a year now and even after all the drama at the start I still tell people that it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. No worrying about the pill at all and even though I had a wobbly start I’m worry free for ten years now!
