Combination pill - over 40?

Hi

I am giving up on the mini pill. I have tried it for 6 months and it has been awful - nearly constant bleeding, mood swings, etc.

I originally went on the mini pill (Cerazette) on the GPS recommendation. I had the combined pill (Microgynon) for years and years before children, and had no problems but the GP suggested it wasn't appropriate after age 40.

I am 44. Is anyone on s combination pill and over 40?

Combined pill can be used up to age 50 as long as you arent overweight, have normal blood pressure and dont smoke

I'm 49 and still on microgynon. Been on it for years. I have been told they won't prescribe it for me after 50 though and would swap me onto the mini pill if I still wanted to take it.

Thanks both. That's good to know. I think I'll push for it. I don't have any of the risk factors.

I was on cerazette for a year and bled virtually every day! I switched to cerelle and it stopped. It was just like being on the combined pill again. Maybe try a different mini pill?

That's strange as it's the same hormone in cerazette and cerelle (desogestrel)

I bled constantly and very heavy on cerelle, I dont bleed at all on cerezette. The nurse said it's the other ingredients that seem to make the difference to some people but the majority of people are better off on cerelle. I'm just unlucky, it's worth trying something different as you may do better on something else.
