Thinking of having merina removed

I’m on my third merina coil. I had one prior to having kids, then another after my first and another after my second. The major pro (apart from preventing pregnancy) is the extremely light (almost no) periods as I had very heavy ones before. However, every month I have the most horrific itching - doctor suspects it’s thrush. It happens every month and it’s unbearable. I think I have two options - get it out and just use condoms or face the unknown and get an implant. I had one about 15 years ago so I don’t know how I’d react. I really don’t want any more kids so have to be careful.

Hi.
Yeah. Am on 3rd coil also and have awful thrush. Also got it to help heavy periods and am now down to what i would consider a normal cycle 5-7 days, 3 days heavy bleeding. My gp gave me a 6 month supply of oral thrush tablet. I had to take one x weekly for 6 months. I also gave some to my DH as i felt we were playing thrush ping pong. They did work for a long while after course had ran out but now its back again. You could try it first instead of getting coil removed to see if it works for you. There have also been reports about organic coconut oil which apparently is good at naturally treating thrush. Im going to give it a go next and try and cut down on my processed sugar intake. When i gave up drinking cola i noticed a massive difference but the demon drink has got its claws back in me again... cola.. my drug of choice! Hope u find a solution before having to change your contraception choice. Good luck x

Just on the off chance: are you using tampons for your bleeds on the coil? I never had a problem when I had heavier periods but when they were very light (also while I was on the coil) I kept getting thrush if I used even the lowest absorbancy, I guess because it dried me out (ugh). My periods stopped altogether after a few months on mirena so the problem went away, but if you are using tampons it might be worth switching to towels (or something reusable, if you're up for that) to see if it makes a difference?

Thanks for your responses! Doc mentioned long term thrush treatments but I’ve tried this before. I’m deffo prone to it and try to cut down sugar as much as possible but this is such a discomfort it’s unreal. I haven’t used tampons since I’ve been coil free as I have an almost non existent flow. Panty liners are all I need. Hence why I’m reluctant to give up the cool. Having said that, I have the most ridiculous bloated belly - I look 5 months pregnant (20 months post partum) and just wonder if it’s a lot of water retention as I do way more exercise than I used to.
