Booked in for 'coil' appointment... is hormonal usually on offer?

I self-referred for a coil appointment with a local surgery the other day, and the clinic there says they offer ' free fitting of long acting contraception (coil and implants)'.]

I am wondering if this is likely to just be the copper coil on offer, or if I would be given the option to get a hormonal coil which is what I want.

On all the sexual health clinics in the area it just says they offer IUD/coil fittings

Any insight appreciated!!!!

Both usually, I had a choice

Usually both - in fact it’s usual fir the first choice to be hormonal now, I think, with the ‘plain’ variety less preferred (heavier periods more likely, I believe). They’ll talk you through both I’m sure.

Yeah they were very pushy towards the hormonal with me but I was decided on the copper one

I think it’s assumed that you want a mirena coil unless you specify that you want copper, you need to weigh up the pros and side effects of both and make an informed choice before the appointment.

Both. The majority of women will be better off with a hormonal coil.

Had my mirena out and copper one put on same day, periods no heavier than before, no hormones decided it for me after having various side effects on mirena
