Positive experience of implant?

Has anyone had a positive experience on the implant? If so can you share - did you just get it put in or did you wait for a specific time in your cycle or be on the pill etc first?

If you had a bad experience did you just have it put in or wait a specific time? Also if you had a bad experience what are you like on other forms of contraception?

I need long term contraception, would consider hubby getting a vasectomy but not 100% sure we are done with 2! The thought of coil gives me terrors as I'm not great with internal exams and I don't think I could go through with it. The injection puts me off as once it's there you just have to wait it out, you can't have it removed!!

I've had implants for 12 years and have had minimal problems. No weight gain, no noticeable effect on mood, no pregnancy. When I wanted to TTC I had it out, got pregnant straight away, and had another one in shortly after the 6 week check. My periods are unpredictable, which can be a nuisance, but light and virtually painless, which is a dramatic improvement on how they were without. I wonder if it has dampened my interest in sex, but as I have a busy job and a young child, that might well have happened anyway. Unless anything changes, I'll probably keep having implants for as long as I need contraception.

I’m on implant 3 now. And no issues. I think they recommend you get it first put in when you’re on your period to ensure you’re not pregnant (was so long ago now that could be made up). I had mine first put in after a failure on the pill and a termination. I did have awful moods (but I put that down to depression surrounding termination at the time) I’m generally fine now. I get a little crabby around period but nothing crazy. I have irregular but fairly light periods. I am overweight but was before implant. I’d say overall it’s been a positive experience.

Oh I should say I’m due a new implant next year, will need to think about options as 2020 will be getting married and thinking about kids etc after. I’ve heard stories of Drs refusing to remove for various reasons, but hopefully these are few and far between.

I had the implant, and whilst it was in I thought that it didn't affect my moods. In fact, thought it was a massive positive experience as my periods stopped!

However, as soon as I had it removed (it had expired) my mood lifted and I realised that I had reacted very badly to the hormones (serious bouts of depression and anxiety) which I haven't had since. Speaking to other women, I've met a few who experienced the same symptoms as me. But we may have just been unlucky.

It was very good contraception though - saved a fortune on condoms (only had regular partners, who were confirmed as STI/STD free).

It was good for me. Didn't affect my mood (whereas the mini pill made me depressed) and stopped my periods, which was great.

It's so weird the way hormonal contraception affects everyone differently. Really makes it hard to decide what options to try.

Thank you everyone! It really is hard to tell! A friend of mine was recommended to take vitamin b6 alongside being on it to counteract the moodiness etc she says she loves it and can't recommend it enough.

Ive had the implant for only 8 weeks, after having my DS 1 year ago. I have already had a period, which was strange as hadn't had one for 2 yrs.
But so far on the while I think it been great, definitely couldn't trust myself to remember to take the pill with a very active baby lol
