Hi, so I found out I was pregnant 2 Week ago and decided I want an abortion a week ago. I made an appointment with BPAS and went yesterday. They said they won't be able to do it at the clinic and I will have to go to a hospital to have it done because I have an over active thyroid. They want to monitor me after rather than send me home. I've to wait for them to get in touch to make an appointment but the lady said
I will need anotjer consultation and this will not be on the same day as the treatment. This is so annoying as I really need to be home for my 2 year old and 6 month old. My OH took the day off work yesterday to look after the kids. He can't take another 2 days off we just can't afford it. And I don't want to tell anybody else. Has anyone been in a similar situation and any advice. Wondering if will be better to go for the surgical method without sedation instead now.

Your husband will have to go off sick, it won't kill him to do that for once. You aren't likely to be in hospital for long. Imagine, if you broke your leg he'd have to take time off so get him to take responsibility, he is half responsible for the pregnancy. For goodness sake get some reliable contraception afterwards.

For goodness sake get some reliable contraception afterwards

Well the tone of that was unnecessary!

OP, could you take the wee ones to the consultation with you and give them something to play with, which would mean only 1 day off work for your DH?

If you're just taking the pill form then being monitored is it possible for you to take your 6 month old with you? It may not be allowed but when I was on gynaecology ward for hyperemesis I was allowed to keep 6 month old DD with me as she was breastfeeding and they had single rooms available.

If thats possible is there any friends of yours/DD (or anyone with a similar age child eg from nursery) who could watch your 2 year old?

If your DD goes to nursery you could ask if they have any space in the baby room as a one off for a hospital appointment.

Or if there is people who could babysit but the issue is you don't want to tell them then you could always say its relating to/monitoring your thyroid issue.

Wow! Thanks for that really helpful and supportive response. I hope it's not too cold up there on your pedestal.

Thank you everyone else this is obviously a situation we really never wanted to find ourselves in. When the hospital calls to make arrangements I'll ask if my 6 month old can come as she too is breastfed it would then be easier for someone to look after my 2 year old. My 2 year old isn't at Nursery yet so that's unfortunately not an option. Thanks again ladies think I'm just upset about finding myself in this predicament. I very rarely leave my children with anyone being a stay at home mum.

It’s a difficult thing you’re going through OP, and totally understandable that it’s tough.

I hope the hospital can give you some options which work and mean minimum stress and disruption for you Flowers
