Mirena? Nexplanon? Depo? Or copper coil

I’m breastfeeding DC2 8 months old and taking Cerazette (minipill). Hasn’t affected my milk supply or caused any other obvious side effects. I had Implanon before I got married and loved it although I feel it did reduce my sex drive.

Definitely done with babies so want a long term very reliable solution. My concerns:

  • sex drive: don’t want to lose it
  • insertion: had c sections so my cervix is as a woman whose never given birth. Mirena/copper coil
  • weight gain: Depo apparently high risk of this
  • fibroids: I have some small ones which might make copper coil not the best option

My GP keeps pushing towards Mirena but I want to consider all my options.

Thanks!

I have been on the depo before. Very reliable as contraception but definitely gained weight on it. Just had the implant removed (ttc number 2) and hadn't realised how much it had been affecting my sex drive tbh - the difference is quite notable! No experience with the coil. If I had to pick between depo and implant again, I'd go implant due to the weight gain/bloating on the depo.

Same for me Katniss. I thought I was normal but when I went off the implant my libido went through the roof!

Any other ideas?

I had my coil when I hadn’t given birth and it honestly wasn’t that bad. The weeks that followed were awful but if that’s the only thing which is putting you off I wouldn’t let it if you really want a coil. Hope this helps

Cerazette (and other POP as well as COC pills) all killed my libido and made me feel very flat, sometimes tipping over into depression.

Mirena hasn't. I won't lie, it was painful having it inserted, but for me, so far, it's been pretty good. Only downside is that period pain is slightly worse. On the other hand my periods are considerably lighter - like pantyliner light rather than night time pads in the day like they used to be.

Hmm so Mirena hasn’t hit your sex drive much? Worried about insertion, I’ve had c sections with no dilation so my cervix is pretty tight Confused

C section here too & no problem having the copper coil inserted at family planning. No hormones, 5 year coil is thinner than 10 year coil so maybe try that one.
Took a few months for periods to settle down but so worth it now as don't even think about it. Good luck with making your choice - it's never easy.
