Coil after childbirth - painful?

I had the mirena coil previously and loved it, had it took out when I wanted to conceive my DS who is 9 weeks old. I would like to have it put in again but I remember a week of horrible cramps after having the first one inserted. I don’t fancy dealing with these cramps while looking after my newborn. So just wondering if anyone has an experience of the coil after childbirth and is it any less painful after having a baby?

I had the mirina coil about 3 months after dd2 was born. Mainly because of horrific bleeding. Barely noticed it going in. No real pain after either. Had spotty bleeding a few times but no periods. Been in 3 months now.

I would recommend to anyone.

I did have some cramps after it was put in, DS2 was 7 weeks old.
It wasn't too bad, I took some painkillers and the pains stopped around 2-3 hours later.

Nowhere near as bad as the after-birth pains, which was worse than labour for me.

Everyone is different, and you may or may not experience the cramps. But you can take different painkillers than you can while pregnant that take the edge off.

Actually mine is the copper coil, which is supposed to be more painful, though I don't know how try that is.

True*

Thanks for the responses, I might give myself another month or so, but I have heard people say they’d been told the coil was a better option for women who’d given birth so I suppose a bit of me is hoping it’ll go in and settle easier!
