Period is late with copper coil

Only by one day but still a bit concerned. Don't want to mention to OH as there is no point yet.

I have 25 day cycles which is short so im not too concerned yet. Maybe my cycle is slightly longer this month? I had medium spotting on days 6-7 after ovulation according to my period tracker.

The chances of pregnancy are extremely low I shouldn't worry should I?

I wouldn’t worry over 1 day no.
But it does all depend on when you had your coil fitted? Can you still feel strings?

Hopskipjumping · 28/06/2018 14:06

I had it fitted 16 months ago. Its the five year coil.

I will try to locate the strings today. I struggle to find them as the strings are extremely short. They are literally inside my cervix so take a bit of fiddling to find. I did find them a month or two ago though.

Tried to reach the strings but my cervix is really closed so unable to locate them. I usually need to feel actually inside the cervix to get them (tmi sorry).

I usually spot throughout my cycle so the spotting isnt unusual.

What is unusual however is I usually have light to medium.spotting a few days before my period so my period is late and so is the expected spotting before hand.

Can swimming potentially delay bleeding? Im on holiday and have been swimming everyday.

Contact your local family planning clinic and they will check the position of your coil for you. They generally advise using condoms until you are happy with the position of your coil.

I don’t swimming will make a difference.
Also I don’t think you’ll have anything to worry about at this stage.
So many things can change your cycle including natural hormones inside the body.
Just keep an eye on any symptoms of pregnancy.

The threads sound like they’re too short in my opinion. How will it be removed in the future?

Hopskipjumping · 28/06/2018 14:43

I assumed they could open the cervix and pull it out. I checked the strings when I first got the coil and got a shock at how sharp they were and they were literally just out my cervix a tiny bit. I called the clinic and they said not to worry

I tried to check over the last few months but could never reach them but didn't worry too much. Then checked again a month or two ago as I really wanted reassurance it was there and after really searching, I found it inside my cervix. I just assumed they'd moved up slightly over time.

I think regardless about the period situation ill get the strings checked when I'm home.

I don’t think it’s possible to open your cervix, they would have to put you under general anestetic.
If your threads are inside your cervix you will never be able to put a finger in to feel them. The cervix is always firmly closed. It would cause immense pain to do this.
Are you sure they’re not just tucked around the sides?
If you cannot feel your threads at all you should get it checked.

Hopskipjumping · 30/06/2018 09:50

I've had a good check and cant feel the strings so will get it checked once my period has finished.

Still no period yet but have light brown spotting so hopefully it will come soon.

Best time to get those threads checked just after your period

Hopskipjumping · 04/07/2018 18:07

I tried tried to get an appointment but the soonest time was 19th July but still should be before my next period.

They do “manually dilate” your cervix. The dr who put mine in said she would give it one more try and then have to do that. I wouldn’t worry too much. They did refuse to cut mine that short though because they aren’t allowed to use actual anaesthetic at the sexual health clinic, just gel which the dr said never really works, so it would be very painful to do this to find the strings. I’m surprised they deliberately done that!
