Does anyone not use contraception but doesn't want to get pregnant

I've got two kids and don't want any more

I've recently come off the pill as I had zero libido which was starting to affect our relationship. It's coming back now which is a relief, but i don't want to lose it again. I'm considering the coil but concerned that could affect it too

Would it be crazy just to avoid having sex around my ovulation period? Having tracked my cycle when TTC I know it always falls on day 22 of a 32 cycle

I hate condoms so that's not an option

Get the Natural Cycles app and Basel thermometer, it’s as accurate as the pill if you take your temp and track seriously.

Thanks everyone!!

I am tracking at the moment (but not using it for contraception as I have a copper coil. This month I ovulated a week late, so if I’d been relying on tracking for contraception we would have had to abstain for two weeks. We don’t have sex during my period so that’s another five days or so when we would have to abstain. I don’t really understand couples who think that is preferable to using condoms, and that’s without the pregnancy risk.

If you did get pregnant using this method, have you thought about (and discussed with your husband) what you would actually do? Have the baby or go for a termination?

Some people manage to successfully use this method, but I suspect they are either incredibly regular AND extremely careful and self-controlled, or just not that fertile.

I really wouldn’t do this unless you’d be OK with having another baby.

I’m just starting to use fertility awareness after having nexplanon removed. My understanding is that you don’t have to abstain during your fertile days, you can choose to use barrier methods if you want to have sex during them. It’s entirely up to the couple. In fact, I think we will end up using condoms all the time anyway, as DP is very dubious about the idea of FAM Grin But at least by tracking my cycle I will know WHEN I am fertile.
And I don’t think it’s to do with being regular or not - it’s not the same as the rhythm method. You’re observing your signs of fertility on any given day, not basing them on previous cycles.

I'm on month 8 of natural cycles - love it Smile

My best friend has just found out she’s pregnant. She’s been using natural cycles for about 6 months and been tracking her temps every morning etc

BendydickCuminsnatch · 15/05/2018 21:55

TTC or not Frosty?

Starlight2345 · 15/05/2018 21:57

Why is this a discussion just about you what about your partner?

Frosty66612 · 15/05/2018 21:59

@bendy not trying to conceive. She was using condoms during the days that were flagging up as possibly fertile with the thermometer but she’s still fallen pregnant

TheRealMotherGoose · 15/05/2018 22:09

If you do this properly you can actually use it to avoid conceiving.

There's a wonderful book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler that you should read, and you'll need an accurate thermometer and a good level of self-discipline to monitor your fertility and also to avoid having unprotected sex at 'dangerous' times of month!

I have used it successfully for years as a contraceptive, and then used it to know when to have sex when I did want to conceive (which we did successfully, first time round).

The study has shown that Natural Cycles has a perfect use failure rate of 1.0, which means that 1 out of 100 women who use the app for one year may become pregnant, either due to method failure i.e. the app wrongly attributing a green day or the chosen method of contraception on a red day having failed. The app has a typical use failure rate of 7, which means that in total 7 women out of 100 may get pregnant during one year of use due to all possible reasons (e.g. having unprotected intercourse on red days). The resulting efficacy rate for perfect use is 99% and for typical use is 93%.

Your friend was very unlucky!
