First period after cerazette

Hi Ladies

Just wondering how others found coming off Cerazette? Been on it for about 4 years (bet been on others and the implant since 2008) but stopped taking it Sunday so that we can TTC.

I got my bleed on Wednesday, which I thought was great after reading horror stories online, but oh my goodness it is painful. Considering I had a "period" on the pill only 2 weeks ago, I wouldn't have even thought there was this much left in me.

Has anybody experienced the same? How long did it last? Any suggestions on making these cramps more bearable? They're so much worse than anything I called a bad cramp before!!

(Sorry for the long post)

That’s a withdrawal bleed. It shouldn’t last too long and then you may have to be quite patient waiting for your real period to reinstate. Or it may come back quickly. I found magnesium helps and I know some people are taking Angus Castus

Agnus lol

I did exactly as you did about a year ago. i came off Cerazette Jan 2017 in order to conceive. Had my period about 24 (one cycle for me) later but everything was completely normal like my body just snapped back. i had been on the pill for about 10 years.

My periods however were a bit strange, really light and short and my cycle was shorter then before too. went to the doc about it as i worried that it would effect my fertility. 2 weeks after that appointment i was pregnant. My little boy is 3 weeks old today xx

It is a really good sign that you had a period right away i had heard all kinds of horror stories about people waiting 6 months or more for their bodies to get back to normal.

@Babyblues99. Do you mind me asking how short your cycles were. Got a Drs appt today as worried because I’m ovulating on days 9 and 10 :/

Thanks both for the replies :) yeah, I figured it's just a withdrawal bleed but I just didn't expect it to be so OTT lol :)

I'll look at Magnesium and the Agnus Castus :)

Yeah I’ve been surprised by that before. Worse one was when the Mirena was taken out. Massive blood clots and heavy bleeding for 2 weeks. I thought I was dying lol

@Karigan1

My cycles were 23-24 days or so. i went to see the dr 3 months after coming off the pill but they were very reassuring saying it can often take quite a while for things to return to normal. i had also been on the pill for so long that it was possible that my cycle had changed naturally in that time anyway. Prior to the pill i think my cycle had been 26 days long, apparently your cycle can get shorter as you get older.

Of more concern to me was how short and light the bleeding was as it only lasted a day and a half and was barely there which was a lot different to my 5 days of bleeding before. i had read somewhere (probably online, bad idea!!) that this could be because you have less lining to bleed and this can effect how likely an egg is to implant. 4 th cycle however i got my positive test so don't know if i was just lucky or had nothing to worry about in the first place.

The Dr was not overly concerned and said they don't generally consider you have a problem for at least a year or so anyway!

Oh, i was using the clear blue fertility monitor for the two months before i conceived, we only DTD one time that month and it was the day before i hit peak fertility so i would recommend that. (it was recommeded to me by a friend who was successful with it after 3 years TTC.

I was on Cerazette for nearly 10 years - came off and had a 'normal' period within 3-4 weeks and then became pregnant 2 weeks after that!

Stephisaur · 23/02/2018 10:13

@Junibug - yay! Congratulations!

Genuinely concerned that my husband might have a heart attack if we get pregnant straight away, but at least I'd know that taking the pill had been worth it all this time!

Oh that is reassuring Babyblues99! Thank you for sharing that. I don’t have a year to muck around or id probably be more relaxed. partner decided he wanted kids on my 40th after I’d been telling him for years if he wanted them he needed to say now! Hmm
