Help - sudden heavy bleeding

Hello,

Had the mirena coil fitted about 6 weeks ago, had no problems except initial spotting for a couple of weeks.

Stood up from my desk earlier to experience a gush of heavy bleeding - went to the loo, passed quite a few clots and now the bleeding is a constant drip.

Is this normal type of bleeding on mirena in the first few months? I sort of thought I was in the lucky few who experience no periods after it being fitted but this is a bit worrying.

I've called my gp who said to pop in on my way home later.

I would go into gp or hospital if it continues to be heavy. I've had one go through my uterus and had to be removed.

Went to gp as bleeding was getting worse. She was pretty alarmed! However, it's in place, she's putting me on blood thickeners to control the bleeding and will see how it goes.....Confused

Oh you poor thing. How long are you on the blood thickeners for? I took them too and you have to be careful with them

MamaDuckling · 16/01/2018 12:28

She hasn't told me to stop taking them.... need to go back for a follow up in 7-10 days

I believe I was told 7 days was max. But I would look up the medication and see if there's some info, or call a pharmacist. Is it tranexamic acid?
I think the issue is it can cause clots elsewhere if taken too long.

Yep, that's the stuff.... she's said to only take half the dose, perhaps that's why she said I could take it indefinitely?? I'll speak to a pharmacist.....

No worries. 🙂 Have you managed to speak to a pharmacist? I'm Shock at being told you could take it indefinitely. I mean she's a doctor so you'd hope she'd know but I'd want to check. And how is the bleeding going?
