Mirena coil insertion?

I'm going the Mirena fitted tomorrow afternoon. I've actually had it before about six years after I had DS. I had it done at my doctors surgery and I was given a local anaesthetic and cannot really remember in all honesty.

DD is two and I've been on the pill since she was young but decided to have a change. I'm having it done at the sexual health clinic and they never mentioned a local anaesthetic at the consultation, so assume they won't do it.

Will it hurt without? I generally have a high pain threshold but I've had two c-sections so have heard that insertion might not be as easy as if I'd had a natural birth.

What about after? So much has happened since having it the first time I cannot really remember 🙈

Advice?

I've had mirena coils in twice. Once at the GPs surgery and once at a sexual health clinic. Much better at the sexual health clinic. Can't remember whether I had anaesthetic not but it wasn't painful in the way it was the first time. Plus I didn't have the horrible cramps I had the first time either.

I've only had one mirena. Two sections but laboured a bit. It was OK, just like a slightly longer smear test with more fiddling about.

I've had two, and I have no DC at all - first time was with local as part of another procedure, the second was inserted by nurse at surgery with no local and absolute cracker of a migraine!

It's uncomfortable, I won't lie, but doable and very quick. You've had babies by cesarean, you'll be far more stoic than me! Plenty of deep breathing, be over before you know it.

I wasn't offered any anaesthetic when I had mine .,.it was uncomfortable but also quick.

Thanks all. I'm sure I will be fine! 😊

I've had 2 - both without anaesthetic (didn't even know that was an option!) & they were very uncomfortable but fine in the end.

I was pretty much told I was having the anaesthetic. I believe it was because the nurse was a little inexperienced and was worried she would cause me some pain. The same nurse couldn't get the thing out either. She told me she was worried it was would cause me pain. She sent me to the sexual health clinic who got it or straight away! 😂
