Microconor mini pill & mood swings

I took microgynon for yeaaaaars no problem, got put on the mini pill after my 1st child as breastfeeding but found it really had a negative impact on my mood, this was only a suspicion however as obviously I was tired and hormonal anyway! We moved to more lax contraceptive methods and I got pregnant when my eldest was 9m Blush, Anyway, happy accident but now I've been prescribed it again and really do not want another unexpected pregnancy but have found the same thing happening, I'm absolutely furious all the time but with little interludes of feeling very low and tearful. Lovely!

Did anyone else have these symptoms? Do they subside? I've been taking it for a month now.
My next option would be the coil I guess but I'm not quite sure I'm ready for the procedure (DS is 11 weeks) Shock.

Oh and also the thought of sex is making me feel ill, which kind of defeats the object anyway. Grin

If you are thinking about the coil 11 weeks is a good time, your cervix will still be soft so should be less traumatic rather than more (assuming no birth injuries)

Unfortunately I have to say that the coil give me 4 days of rage every 5/6 weeks, and am also a bit sex averse and wondering if that is also related

PennySillin · 14/08/2017 21:23

If the coil works it's brilliant but if it doesn't it can be awful for some ladies. How about going back on the other pill that worked for you before you had your babies while you make your mind up?

kingofthemingers · 14/08/2017 21:24

Oh that's interesting about it being a good time to get the coil! Not so good about the possible similar side effects...agh!

Try a different mini pill? They are not all the same

kingofthemingers · 14/08/2017 21:25

Thanks pennysillin I guess I'll just have to give it a try maybe. I can't go back on microgynon for now as I'm breastfeedingy 2nd dc and it affects your supply, it's annoying as I got on so well with it!

Yes I might go back to the gp, I liked the idea of microconor as you have a bigger window of time to take it in than other mini pills and I am forgetful!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 14/08/2017 21:28

Micronor has a 3 hour window whereas others have 12 hours e.g. cerazette, cerelle, etc

PennySillin · 14/08/2017 21:28

You can take microgynon and breastfeed, the advice has changed although many GPs aren't aware of it.

PennySillin · 14/08/2017 21:31

It's only 6 weeks after having a baby that you can't take the combined pill. If it worked for you I would ask your GP if you can change back.

dementedpixie · 14/08/2017 21:32

It's not advised to use a combined pill until the baby is at least 6 months old as it affects milk supply

Oh I've been taking it wrong anyway then, great Confused

This is VERY interesting.

Ok but the medical advice has changed this year so if the OP wants to request from her GP she should be prescribed it.

dementedpixie · 14/08/2017 21:40

She should also be aware that it can affect milk supply especially if she wants to keep breastfeeding

kingofthemingers · 14/08/2017 22:34

Hmmm I really don't want to risk any decrease in supply.

kingofthemingers · 15/08/2017 07:51

Oh I've just checked and I'm actually on desogestrel Blush, I tried microconor after my first dc.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 15/08/2017 07:53

That is the one with a 12 hour window. I use cerazette (alongside the expired mirena that I need to get removed under general anaesthetic) and it is desogestrel based too

kingofthemingers · 15/08/2017 08:01

Yes I was wondering where I got the 12 hour window from! Glad I'm not going mad.

You have to get the mirena removed under ga??

This is the factsheet from The Breastfeeding Network about contraception. It mentions the new guidance on the combined pill but mentions that it does not match the experience of the author (the Drugs in Breastmilk service) based on reports from breastfeeding mothers, so, basically, proceed with caution.

breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/wp-content/dibm/contraception%20and%20breastfeeding.pdf

I personally wouldn't risk my supply, particularly with an unweaned baby.

dementedpixie · 15/08/2017 08:15

Yes my mirena strings are not visible so they can't pull it back out. I've been to gynae who used some other implement but it still wouldn't come out. I went for an ultrasound to check it's still there (It is) so the next stage is an hysteroscopy to get it removed under GA. Glad dh has had the snip recently so sometime soon I won't need any contraception!

Ah it will feel so liberating!

dementedpixie · 15/08/2017 09:04

Although I will get periods again, haven't had one of them for years

kingofthemingers · 15/08/2017 09:52

Oh yeah that's true, I haven't had one since I got pregnant with my 1st child!

I've stopped taking the pill today anyway, will see if I improve or whether I am actually just a moody cow naturally.
