Best contraception

Hi I've started a new relationship and am not currently on any contraception. I have previously tried Depo and the pill. I came off Depo after it was injected into a nerve and I still have issues 10 years on from that. I also have been told my weight is an issue with the pill. I would not even consider the coil having carried a passed out friend from the GPs after having it fitted.
I want something that will hopefully not change my periods. I don't ever want children so currently thinking of sterilisation. Please tell me the pros and cons of what you use.

DH had a vasectomy. I thoroughly recommend it, but it's probably not quite what you're looking for!

The only thing that works for me by not sending me mental or getting me pregnant is the copper coil but I can see you've discounted it already.

Ha ha! I doubt a vasectomy would be a suitable recommendation at this point! ha!

You could have the mini pill, copper coil, condoms, diaphragm/cervical cap (if you find someone who fits them). Do you have children?

I have the mirena coil and have never passed out with it

I don't have children. I've looked into the options available such as the implant, patch, mini pill etc but I wanted people's experiences of what they use - side effects etc.

I used the cerazette mini pill for several years and it stopped my periods (saved a fortune on tampons!). I moved to the mirena coil and don't have periods with that either. Mine needs removing now but I am getting referred to gynae as the strings are not where they should be to help with removal.

Thank you, it gives me food for thought.

It's hard to say what's the best contraception and it all depends on how you get on with them.
I have tried various pills and didn't fancy having a look fitted after I had my children was on microgynon for a while before I had my daughter. Was ok on it but it was a parp. After my daughter was born doctor suggested the implant because of the trouble I was having with the other pills I've tried.
I know a few people who have them and they have been ok on it, was a bit put off by all the negative things people were saying about it but I didn't want the coil so went ahead and got the implant and it's the best thing I have ever done.
But everyone is different

I was on the pill but found I would forget to take it (oopss) so I've Now got the implant,(I got it after my daughter was born)I think it's a good option coz you don't have to worry about having it changed for 3 years and don't have to remember to take something everyday .also if you ever decide you DO want children you can have the implant taken out and can conceive straight away . Hope this helped! Smile
