Non stop bleeding on Feanolla Desogestrel pill.

Started taking Feonello Desogestrel 75mg about 5 weeks ago. I've been bleeding constantly for 2 weeks since the time my period would normally start. My bleed before taking Feonello lasted a week. I wasn't on any type of hormone birth control or coil prior to beginning the Feonello.

Is this to be expected? The leaflet does describe bleeding as a side effect, but that's all the info I could glean. Apart from anything else, it's farkin inconvenient!

Anyone else have experience of this particular pill?

Oh my god I could cry.

I have been working with my doctor and others at the family planning clinic to understand what's wrong with me...

I am happy I think I now know but furious that I or any of the medics did not think of it too. I take half the blame.

I am not a mum and have no plans to be so have been on cerelle/cerezette and now feanolla, all 75md desogestrel mini pill brand names.

Anyhow I have been experiencing dryness pain and absolute loss of libido for 4 or 5 years now, and it was destroying my intimacy with my husband. I thought it was stress, anxiety, depression and have had lidocaine, for the nerve pain, beta blockers and anti depressants and was tested for thyroid function, peri menopause, folical stimulant tests, vagisimus, all the std's on the planet and was just about to embark on some private psychosexual counselling, and get another referral back to a gynaecologist - when I decided to research my new pill feanolla...

Yes they changed brands AGAIN I moaned. Obviously having taken the pill for over 1500 days now I don't regularly read the contraindications - so my interest was sparked at no.4 on the list - loss of libido... So I went to Dr Google.... This is a real this - loads of people have reported their sex drive shrinks to nothing, omg!

I am delighted that I think I have got to the root cause. I'm not broken, mentally, emotionally or physically, though the pain might be a lack of lube, tension associated with not feeling horny...etc - But why oh why did I (and no one else) just think about advising me to come off the pill.

I write this as a word of caution, especially to new mums your emotions will be all over the place and you will be tired and no doubt sex will be low on the list - whilst I didn't have any challenges with using this bc method, in fact I haven't had a bleed for 6 years - (I had horrific periods before) which is amazing BUT it has damn near cost me my mental health and my relationship. Proceed with caution.

I have started takeing feanolla pill for 3 weeks now, and I have started bleeding the pain in my stomach is really bad and the bleeding is really heavy is this normal and do I carry on taking the pill whilst bleeding, it's so annoying as I had a coil in for 5 years and never had any problems when I did have a period it was very light but had to go onto this pill as I had to have coil removed when I had some abnormal cells removed after a smear

I've just been given this today from the nurse at family planning clinic following the reported national shortage of depo.

I'm due Togo on holiday in three weeks and thought I'd just google the pill feanolla before taking it. Now I'm worried that this will be the worst decision going. I suffered a loss of libedo and actual emotion on the depo, it actually made me almost numb of feelings and I have had the worst emotional crashes since coming off it twice. Only got through the third time after reading it was common amongst woman and so battled through and resolved to stay away from messing with my hormones.

Since then I've got married and it would be nice to share a more intimate spontaneous relationship with my husband but it seems every method I read has its side effects. I'm quiet scared to actually start taking these now.

Hi , I've been on Feanolla since April as my family planning told me microgynor ( excuse spelling ) had been discontinued, yet this was made the same so I should be fine.
Given my age 44, I am now restricted as to what I can take and can only take the pill in mini pill form. I've had 3 periods which last approx 2 weeks 🙈 It isn't heavy but is just always there ! I don't get any period pains or cramping in my tummy or tops of my legs , yet my periods are so prolonged? I just don't know no is it going to get any better or are they going to be like this every month. How long of trying this out is long enough ? Oh and instead of going the norm of 21-28 days before the next period I'm going 31-32 days before it starts .
Any suggestions ?

Hello, I'm deliberately resurrecting an old thread as I think there's some useful stuff on here.
I've just started on Feonella - three weeks in - and it's like other posters already. Non stop bleeding, horribly teary. My sex drive has plummeted.
I'm also past 40 and likely perimenopausal which is why I've gone on this- to help with horrendously heavy periods.
The family planning nurse said it would take a little time for my hormones to settle and to give it at least six months.

My question is, has anyone stuck it out with this pill and found that it did all settle?
Most of the feedback seems to be from women in the early stages of using it.
I can stick it out for six months if I have to, but not if it's not going to get any better.

@WinchestersInATardis I’ve just started back on this having come off it for 6 months (out of laziness in getting more as my drs are crap and local sexual health services sparse). I was on it for three years last time (and two before another break years before that) and for me yes it totally settles down. I can’t remember exactly how long it takes but after maybe 6 months or so the spotting just becomes less regular until you realise you’ve not bled for ages. I had about three periods in the three years I was on it and all were a few days after I’d missed a pill. The first few months are so annoying but for me it’s worth it.
Just wish I hadn’t come off as although no bleeding yet (I’ve been taking it two weeks this coming sat) I know that’s a definite ‘yet’ haha

WinchestersInATardis · 25/01/2018 08:56

Thanks violicorn. That makes me feel a bit better about it. Grin

WinchestersInATardis · 30/01/2018 06:26

Just a note for anyone watching this. I've given up on this pill. I know I'm supposed to stick it out until it settles. I can handle the endless bleeding and even the lack of sex drive, but I have spent every day utterly miserable and probably burst into giant blubby tears at least twice a day. Even small things set me off.
I can't handle that level of misery for six months.

Sorry to jump in on an old thread but I have to say, I hate this pill!!

I was on cerazette before I had my daughter but the local clinic started me on this when my daughter was 5 weeks; they told me it was exactly the same pill! My daughter is now nearly 10 months and I’ve stuck with it this long. The first 5 months I had regular periods which were ridiculously heavy and lasting 10-12 days each. The clinic told me to take 2 pills per day. I have now been bleeding for 3 months straight; granted, not as heavy but bleeding nonetheless.

GP, clinic and gynaecology at the hospital (yes, I bled so heavily I had to have it investigated) told me I have to ride it out and changing or stopping could make me worse. I am already anaemic and take regular iron but I’m so scared of making it even worse.

Would would you all do?

TIA

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right place but i couldn't find another discussion about desogestrel.

I have been on Feanolla 75 microgram(desogestrel) for 3 years now. I haven't had any periods for 3 years or any side effects which i though it's absolutely great.

Recently I had blood test that showed high prolactin so i was refered for a trasvaginal ultrasound, which showed no cysts (great) but after the examination the doctor told me that there is some sort of build up where i haven't had period for so long and that it is nothing to worry about. The doctor said it is not worrying but it might take longer to get pregnant later on.

My next appointment with my endocrinologist is in Feb, and i can't help but think is this something to worry about ?
Is this build up something to worry ?
Do I need to stop taking Feanolla so i can finally get a period and get this build up cleared ?

Also, when i first got my period at 15 i had a cyst which eventually shrunk and disappeared due to me being put on the pill, so i can't help but think, would i start developing more cysts the moment i stop taking the pill ?

If anyone can me on this will be great

Thank you :)
