I wasn't sure where to post this and had a look through different topics for a similar post but had no such luck.

I have had arranged with a local clinic to have a consultation meeting regarding donotating some of my eggs- i completed the checklist and qualify on those grounds.

the clinic has informed me that i will have a scan and blood test at my consultation meeting this month. was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this? is it internal or external scan.. will it hurt if internal? what's the procedure like when making the donation? I know you have to have two daily injections for a while but am unsure why.

any help would be appreciated. thank you.

This is the contraception topic, which might be why you've had no responses.

You might like to ask MNHQ to move this to a more suitable topic (conception?) and I hope you find posters who can help.

Hi, you will have an internal scan and a blood test to assess your ovarian reserve (number of eggs).
The scan doesn't hurt. When it comes to donation they will give you drugs to stop ovulation. Then the injections stimulate your ovaries to develop lots of eggs rather than just the usual one or two of a normal cycle. They scan you every few days to check how the eggs are developing. Once they decide you have a good crop they will harvest them. Usually they give a strong sedative and most people sleep through the collection. Afterwards you will have a little spotting and feel a little bruised but it's not painful.

all exactly as PP has said...This process is the first half of an ivf cycle so you might post there. You can also expect the drugs used to make you moody/angry unfortunately. ... so try to avoid situations that will make you tense!

The retrieval is not painful... certainly no worse after than a period pain. But the sudden stoppage of all the hormones again can make you moody

Are you donating to a friend /family member?

It's not a bad process but surprised otherwise

And: evidence is mixed but there ARE risks potentially (using up eggs store, poss health risks). I've been through this for me bit wouldn't do it lightly unless donating to family - just my opinion
