I've been referred for sterilisation but confused

Hi

My doctor agreed to refer me to be sterilised but wasn't very helpful. He printed out a referral form for me and I've been online and booked an appt. but what exactly have I booked an appt for? Presumably for someone to talk to me about the process before it is booked etc?

How many steps to the process are there and how long will the whole thing take end to end? Also, has anyone had essure on NHS?

Thanks

ime, it's the appt. where they try to talk you out of it so they can get you off their waiting lists faster! Otherwise they explain what's involved & let you ask questions.

Is it intense? Do you have to justify everything?

not intense at all, honest! They just don't want you to make a decision that you might regret. Almost impossible to reverse.

Lollipop6969 · 25/02/2015 20:14

I want it 100% irreversible lol. If they agree to me having it done, is the next step the op? Do you know how long that will take from my consultation? x

I let them talk me out of it, sorry, not much help.
They can advise you on next steps and how long the wait is.

Research the procedure online first as there are side affects and things that can go wrong. I know someone who had it and it has made her very ill and thats it now. Shes got bad depression, constant migraines, intense pain all over her body, hair loss, extreme fatigue, thats just the start.

Find out what method they are using.
If it's the traditional laparoscopic way where tubes are tied it or whether it's trans vaginally to insert springs into your tubes. There have been issues with the springs containing nickel (same as cheap earrings) causing all sorts of issues (Google "Essure complications")
I had the traditional method and apart from a bit of ovulation pain for the first few months it was fine. They tried really hard to talk me out of it. I just kept repeating that my mind was made up.

I had essure and it was also fine op, it's web induced scare mongering imo, anything can have side effects.

Interestingly enough no one tried to talk me out of it, one appointment with a nurse at the hospital then I was booked in.
