Vasectomy: Still sperm in semen.

After a traumatic vasectomy my husband's post semen test has come back showing sperm is still present. He has a gp appointment later to discuss the results, but I wondered if anyone could advise what this means, any similar stories etc? Thanks.

On and the GP commissioners think it's Ok for the GP to forget the procedure, have records saying one GP did the op when another did and no record of the complications in surgery. Follow up appointment details are blank. The whole episode stinks. Even the commissioners quote the 1 in 10 but it appears ok for two sets of GP to not tell me and leave out the paragraph about long term pain.

If you get trouble after the snip you really are on your own and it can't be fixed.

I am sick of waking at 4 am in agony and the pain just gets worse until I get up and stay up.

Is there anyone above GP commissioners you can take this to?

It's astonishing that an account with such severe inaccuracies (such as who did the operation) can be endorsed.

And is there any sign of the risks of vasectomy being more effectively communicated? It is on the NHS website, but I'm not sure whether people really understand that the 1:10 isn't post operative discomfort, but serious painful and often untreatable long-term conditions.

I could complain further but I still have to wait for a response to my counter complaint. It's taken 12 months so far. Nobody will say sorry and they won't admit to the occurrence of problems. Only The hospital tell you the truth.

Fuzz, that sounds terrible, you have my sympathy mate. I hope you can soon get some redress and medical progress too.

Mine is only three days old so I'm still in bruised and battered mode and a bit shell-shocked.

30somethingm · 29/01/2015 21:41

Really sorry to hear of your ongoing issues Fuzz.

I can't get an appointment with my GP for 2 weeks and I'm then working away for a month (classic NHS these days) can't book one for 6 weeks time apparently either as it is too far in the future. I last went to the GP in 2009 and got an appointment the next day. What is going on?

I want to discuss vasectomy with him

TheFuzz, I was wondering about you the other day. My DH has had on going problems since his vasectomy a year ago but nothing like what you've been through. Interestingly, his tests were all clear from 12 weeks in and that was after NO sex as he was too swollen and in pain or recovering from infections/cysts. We knew the 1/10 risk from reading on Mumsnet more than anywhere else but I don't think we really anticipated how bad it could be.

DH is okay most of the time now but can't ride his bike (previously riding hundreds of miles a week) and is prone to cysts and infection in the area of the operation.

I wouldn't be getting a vasectomy if you aren't in a relationship and have a complete family. Having one because you don't want kids is very risky.

My snip caused ED and I don't produce enough Testosterone now due to the damage.

The pain alone will stop you getting frisky

Hi Shattered77, just wondering what happened with your husband in the end. My husband had a really traumatic vas op as well. He too has just received a letter saying they cannot provide the all clear after two tests. I feel awful for him. He now has to wait until January to start testing again. Would be interested to know if there is light at the end of the tunnel.
