Which contraception might suit me?

I'm 32yo and have 2dcs. We are trying to decode whether or not to ttc dc3 (who would definitely be our last child), but this question is relevant as I will need contraception at some point, sooner or later.

I have horrible PMS symptoms which include swollen, very tender breasts and tummy cramping for several days before my period is due. I also get horribly tetchy and short-tempered. The first two days of af are always painful so I would like something that takes these symptoms away.

We've used condoms since before the conception of dc1 and since dc2 was born almost 3y ago.

I've taken the pill before (Celeste), many years ago, but I get migraines and I had even more (with increased severity including tingling and numbness) with this. Hence our use of condoms.

But, I don't want to have periods/period symptoms when the time comes for us to not have any more babies.

What might suit me? TIA Smile

Mirena, the hormonal coil, effective and pretty low hormone dose and some people don't have periods. Other options are mini pill (not as good at preventing pregnancy) , copper coil (no hormones but potential for heavier or more painful periods), injection (possible weight gain, higher hormone dose) and implant (very good at making sure you don't get pregnant but can make you bleed every day). None of those should affect migraine.

I would say mirena, if you want it to sort out some of your pms symptoms, it has a much lower dose of progesterone than a pop (progesterone only pill) but be aware that it doesn't suit everyone, be prepared to monitor ifs effects and get it removed if you feel it's making things worse.

mirena. i'm on my second and will hopefully have a third once this one runs out (they last 5 years), it can take a few months for it to settle down but i love being period free and not having to worry about falling pregnant. plus my migraines are much less frequent.
