What choice of contraception do I have left??

Morning ladies :-)

I have just been fitted with a Mirena coil and am having it removed soon as it isn't agreeing with me at all ( getting strong side effects like nausea).

Before my second baby I had the copper coil. It was ok-ish. My periods lasted 2 weeks every month which made me anaemic. There were other side effects hat I won't bore you with but that weren't nice.

For 5 years in my Teens I tried 7 different pills. Mini ones, normal ones etc, got really strong side effects ( gained 1 stone in a month with one, got breast-milk with the other (!!), acne with a 3rd, insane mood swings and depression etc.).
I dont want to consider the implant. Firstly because its a hormone, secondly because I have read and seen so many bad things about it and how it can affect your fertility.

SO what can I have? I have been married for 5 years and my Husband and I have been together for a long time. We have sex at least 4 times a week so condoms would be a joke. I am SO fertile, I get pregnant instantly so although in between contraceptives we have used withdrawal successfully I dont feel safe using it all the time. If there were to be a tiny accident I would get pregnant.

What can I do??

do you still get diaphragms/cervical caps?

rainbowinmyroom · 15/09/2014 14:38

Is your family complete? Sterilisation is an option.

Thank you ilovepowerhoops ! I have just read about them, Id never even heard about those methods. Thats why i posted here because Doctors have never mentioned them even though I asked for ALL of my options before having the Mirena coil fitted.
Do you have one of those? Isn't it a bit of a pain to have to fit them each time you want to have sex?

rainbowinmyroom Im 27 and would love more children in the future, so no its not an option, but thank you.

no I dont have one and have never tried them either. The link does suggest putting it in each night just in case.

Have you thought of mixing the diaphragm/cap/femcap/caya with something like persona or pearly?

They will tell you when you're fertile and need to take extra precautions.

AnguaResurgam · 23/09/2014 21:07

Nuavaring?

Less faff than a diaphragm, as you only have to fiddle with it monthly (and if the hormones don't agree with out, it's easy to discard).

But you do need to remember to put one of the things in again on time.

soapboxqueen · 23/09/2014 21:11

What about depo or the patch?

evertonmint · 23/09/2014 21:13

I too am v fertile - pregnant first time 4 times. I hate hormonal contraception. Use the diaphragm with either condoms or abstaining during most fertile period if I'm particularly on top of my cycle. Used it for 7 years and only ever got pregnant intentionally.

The lady who fitted me first time told me to put it in every night as part of my face & teeth cleaning routine so I'm always ready to go.

If you can use non-applicator tampons you can manage a diaphragm although slightly trickier.

It's great! Now we've had dc3 and are done DH will get the snip but diaphragm has been great.
